Apart from the turtle sanctuary there’s not much else to see on the island, taxis are hard to find too. If booking an online taxi jump in quick when they arrived as they aren’t favoured by the locals. But are much cheaper!
Being an animal lover, I went to this island as I was told it was a sanctuary for turtles, which would be released once they come of age. Much to my surprise, there were other animals there too, which were only there for human entertainment! The large python has its mouth taped shut, which is appalling. The man who took us around the island was very rude, he sat and talked with us about the island after our tour was finished and then became more and more angry and rude to us for no reason before pushing us out of the exit and demanding that we leave. I can only assume that he wanted money, although we had already paid our entry fee. Our boat driver was still inside so we were left out on the beach for quite some time because he refused us to go let the driver know we were leaving. This man continued to yell abuse at us whilst we were waiting on the beach! I would not recommend!!
Turtle island is a sad place to visit. Birds are in tiny cages. They tape shut the mouth of the snakes. What really saddened me is the fact that they encourage people to sit on the pregnant turtles :-(
Most disgusting place. Would like to sneak in and release the poor bloody creatures. Also feel the same about the so called Turtle Conservation place at Sanur. Up to eight large turtles sharing a small tank! Hideous.
