brand new station - probably only opened within the last few months (we visited in mid Jan). Near the location of the old second class bus terminal (at 68 & 70 streets). Google maps has not yet updated this location - it is called the "unified" station or something (but TAME station will get you close) - all buses (1st and 2nd class) now go out of this station.
Busy crazy! We learhe hard way that not every bus station goes to every outlying town. Only certain bus station stations go to Celestun, yet a different bus station to Progresso, a different bus station Valladolid, Uxmsl etc. Know your stuff!
We took the second class bus to Piste to visit Chichén Itza and after reading so many awful reviews I was weary but it ended up being great! We go to see the smaller villages that you normally wouldn't have seen. The bus was air conditioned, not crowded at all and only took about a half hour longer. It cost us 90pesos each and it left every hour from the Tame bus station in Merida. Really nice if you want to see more than just touristy spots
