For a convenient location when visiting the North, this hotel is just 2 minutes walk from the famous Chiang Mai Night Bazaar, one of Asia’s most fascinating markets. Great place. We moved here from another hotel and were so glad we did
It was too crowded but it is nice and a must do if you have not been to a thai night bazar before. It is probably the best to go there at the end when most people already left if you really want to have a look at the items sold though they are the same as elsewhere in Thailand. The nearby temples offer a nice place to spend some time in tranquility
Fun and overwhelming at the same time. We were here 8 weeks and I never tired of this market. Food was good, but I liked the street food better. You will get better prices for things on the street, but the bazaar is fun.
The night bizarre was amazing, some of the best and most unique products I saw in Thai markets. Definitely worth the trip. The food court has bars with reasonable prices and live music. We spent several hours there shopping, eating, drinking and getting fish spas.
Allow plenty of time to wander, there is so much to see. Enjoy the bartering. We got a watch down from 3800bhat to 1500bhat. Look out for Ploen Ruedee Night Market area for some good cheap eats, drinks and live music.
Unfortunately, the Night Market (and surrounding area) is just a shadow of what it was 15-20 years ago. Many booths are now closed ... and all types of products that used to be for sale (and made in the region) are nowhere to be found. What has happened to the red and black lacquerware, the Burmese seed containers, the hammered white metalwork, the teak furniture, the triangle pillows, the celadon ceramics ... or the high-end "antique" shops? And even though Kalagas, fine woodcarvings, modern wood vases, and hill-tribe crafts can still be found, they seem to be few and far between (and of lesser quality). Items like Tibetan paintings and Vietnamese lacquered bamboo are also gone. Perhaps with the massive growth of the Chinese market, many Thai craft factories have closed down during the last decade or so ... and are therefore no longer selling their wares along Chang Klan Road?!? Those who are new to Chiang Mai will probably never even notice ... I was extremely disappointed. Very sad.
Walk as far into the night bazaar as you can, it actually leads you straight to the silver temple. If you go around 8, there will be a buddhist service going on, as well as all sorts of performances from young kids collecting donations for their schooling.
