POR Thapae Gate, hotel in Chiang Mai

In a prime location in the center of Chiang Mai, POR Thapae Gate provides air-conditioned rooms, free bikes, free WiFi and an outdoor swimming pool.

Despite the great reviews, I was a bit dubious given the star rating (we were between staying here and the Intercontinental). I shouldn't have - this hotel experience was even better than the rave reviews could prepare us for, and we were sad to leave. The deluxe double with bath was plenty big enough for our two suitcases to remain open when necessary. The food and amentities are as great as everyone says. The highlight for me was the POOL which was beautifully maintained, the perfect temperature, and got a mixture of sun and shade throughout the day. Even though the hotel was very busy and full and boutique size, it never felt too crowded. Location is perfect!

Absolutely beautifully decorated. The pool area although small, very quiet and luxurious. The lighting at night time around the gardens was so beautiful. The vintage bath tub with a chandelier for lighting created a sense of grandeur.

Worth a visit though be warned it is huge and rather hectic, you may get market stall blindness! They sell clothing, bags, pashminas, all kind of gift items, you can even have a portrait done by several artists who you can see busy at work. Prices are good but you may need to check the quality. At the back of the market you will find the 'ladyboys show' which is well worth it! Sorry for my mistake - this review is about the ANUSAN MARKET not the Night Bazaar

the night Bazar was rebuilt after a flood years ago and upon reopening the rents increased to the point of raising prices and spoiling the good deals there. It is now only a shadow of it's former glory.

I literally loved the Saturday night market!

I literally loved the Saturday night market! Temples are amazing at night... beautiful atmosphere. If you have to pick between Saturday or Sunday ... pick Saturday. I did both and Saturday night market is more interesting for location (silver temple night lightening ) but mostly has an amazing food court you won’t find on Sunday.

    Anything and everything to buy.

Anything and everything to buy. Be sure you have 100 baht notes..locals can not always break a 1,000 baht note. Be sure to eat out at the Gulf restaurant...it is the best Mediterranean food. We have eaten all over the world and this place is the best!! Get the Humus and Baba ghanoush. Or just get the veggie platter! Once someone told us of this place...we eat there eight times!!!

Great Location! It’s just steps away from the Chiang Mai Night Bazaar. There’s a pharmacy and a 7-11 across the street. There’s also laundry services across the street. The breakfast buffet at the hotel was very good. I like that they had some different dishes every day in addition to the standard dishes. They had a fruit station, omelette station, Thai station (that had rice porridge and all the toppings, curries, Thai soups, stir fry, etc.), pancakes, bacon, miso soup, breads and pastries, juices, etc. Everything was tasty.

Great rooms and staff! Large rooms and very strong AC. Breakfast was amazing and featured a different surprise everyday. Got to try different types of food from green curry to pandan desserts. Food was kept clean and warm. Close proximity to many Night Markets (Daily Chiang Mai Night Bazaar, Sunday and Saturday night markets) We were able to book excursions such as Elephant Sanctuary and Tiger Kingdom to pick up from the hotel as it was one of the recognized ones. Great value!
