I grew up in Las Vegas, so I was used to the party atmosphere. We had our kids with us, so we didn't spend much time on Bourbon Street. But it is definitely a place for adults to drink, party and have a good time. Would recommend for adults!
In our 1st trip in the late 70s I thought “There are places like this in my home town & nice people don’t go there.” With advice from friends on clubs to go in & places to eat we went again and fell in love! Over almost 40 years we’ve been dozens of times! The Quarter is VERY safe. Right now there is construction on Bourbon Street which makes it difficult at night since the throngs if people are restricted to the sidewalks in those areas.
Beware of scam artists working Bourbon Street. Do not go with anyone offering free drinks or free shots of liquor. Bring only what you need. Credit card identification small amount of cash. Stay close together travel in groups. Just use common sense like you would in any City.
It was very exciting, however the week of Voodoo parade and Halloween should not have been the start of a major repair project down the middle of the street. People were trapped inside the walking areas because of the impossibility narrow entry/exit ways.
Bourbon Street is fun and entertaining. So many artists throughout the the street with a variety of acts including live bands. Bring your dollars to place in tip buckles as children and adults use their skills to entertain you. There are plenty of bars for the partiers and plenty of restaurants for the hungry. Many sights to stop and view as you travel down Bourbon Street. Bourbon street seems to get busier as the night goes on. Some sights will surprise you (Topless women) and some sights are comical ( An older lady barely dressed dancing to music provided by her musical cart). Many people on the street appear to have had 5 drinks too many. Every now and then a stench comes up that will take your breath away. Most people are there to just have a good time. Police on horseback are present to make sure nothing gets totally out of control.
Wild, messy, fun, entertaining, just something to explore but be cautious of your surroundings. Use smaller wallets and have at least have $20 in cash if necessary; and mostly a debit/credit card you plan to use the most. Other than that, have fun and be safe!

It was a lot bigger than I thought it’d be. Clean and comfy. It was a very walkable distance from Bourbon street, plus the trolley is right outside. And the price was as much if not a little less than getting a room at hotel, which would have been much smaller and wouldn’t have included a full kitchen, and a washer and dryer.

The bed was very comfortable, the coffee machines with the K Cups were great. The staff was friendly and the hotel was decorated beautifully for Christmas. Very good location in the middle of Bourbon Street, however bourbon street has become crazier now with a lot of drunk teens roaming the streets at night.

Placed at one street from the (in)famous Bourbon street, this hotel is a good solution to enjoy both New Orleans French Quarter nightlife and to explore its other less noisy boroughs. The bar of the hotel was also nice, with very good cocktails.

Charming feel to the hotel, quiet and private yet so close to the action on Bourbon street
If you are looking to avoid crowds, its tough. Find restaurants off the beaten track and at different times than are typical eating times. Avoid Bourbon street at night on the weekend, more of a crowd drinking scene anyway so if crowds aren't your thing, not really where you should be looking. The fact is that it is a popular place so it is tough to miss people, but strike out on your own and explore and there are some great things to see.
So many options to listen and enjoy music, not only on Bourbon Street but throughout the French Quarters and adjacent areas. Big plus is that for most places its free entry, so you can just go and enjoy the music without having to spend much money.
Don't be afraid to ask locals for suggestions! Bourbon street bartenders are a treasure trove of suggestions for places off ghe beaten path
Bourbon Street has the worst features of Spring Break at night, especially on weekends and during festivals/holidays.
