Biwako Hanakaido features outdoor and indoor hot-spring baths, 3 dining options and rooms with a balcony and Lake Biwako views. It also has a garden and a sauna, while the lobby offers free WiFi. We stayed there for two nights, and it was one of the best hotels we have been to in our life. The hotel is located approximately 20 minutes walk from the Ogotoonsen Train station. However, the hotel provides free shuttle bus service from and to the train station. Just inform them beforehand. The hotel itself is beautiful inside. But the most wonderful are the people working there - everyone, be it check-in staff, kitchen staff or service staff - went above and beyond to provide fantastic, friendly service and comfortable stay for their guests. They readily answered our inquiries and were very kind. For example, they brought us to the Sakamoto the day after our arrival so that we could take the Sakamoto Cable Car to explore the Mount Hie. We booked the Junior Suite with Open-Air Hot Spring Bath. The room is large and gorgeous, with a separate bedroom and living room. The semi-open hot spring bath had a lovely view of Lake Biwa and starry heaven at night. It is also a very quiet location, so the feeling was truly magical while bathing at night. All necessary amenities are provided: Toothbrushes, hair and body products, several yukatas in our size and great tea and coffee. Our room booking also included dining in a private room with a several-course menu. This brings us to the next point: The food. The chef and the other kitchen staff are true artists. The unique kaiseki style meals, be it breakfast or dinner, were always presented elegantly. The fresh and generous meals represented the very best of the best of Japanese Omi region cuisine and were absolutely delicious. Many compliments to the staff!
