The private bath and the overall atmosphere. It was a very nice break after visiting Tokyo. They also had complementary noodles (10:00-11:00 pm), which was great. Drinks available in the lounge.

We felt right at home in Yunohirakan. The rooms were comfortable, and the very quiet location as well as the height allowed us to sleep comfortably with the windows open. The staff was very friendly and helpful. And we especially loved the evening meals which were delicious!

The place has great atmosphere! It is super cozy and you can feel that the staff has thought through everything. The open-air bath was amazing and it's really great that all the baths are booked for private use so you can use it as a couple or even if you have tatoos. All the common areas were clean and had everything possible - the kitchen was very well equipped and it was no problem to cook a proper dinner if you had the ingredients. I was also presently surprised to see some plant-based curries among some products you can buy on site. They also have a shuttle bus to closest restaurants and information on their menu including notes on whether they have vegetarian menu. I was travelling alone and booked a bed in hostel-type room and it exceeded my expectations. The bed itself was pretty spacious, the room had a sink and a mirror and most of all I was glad to get a lot of space for my luggage as it is usually a problem in such rooms, but here I had more than I needed. The location is great even if you are travelling by public transport and perfect for a stay before going up Norikura Mountain. I would definitely like to stay here again and maybe I will come with my boyfriend next time.

Wow - our only stay in a Ryokan whilst in Japan but it was a very good one. The host kindly & patiently explained everything in English for us so we understood how it all worked. Great location with a bus stop outside so easy to get to. Beautiful surroundings. The evening meal was incredible especially as it was our first experience!

This inn was I think our favourite place we stayed during our whole trip. It is located very conveniently near the Norikura bus stop where you could take the bus up the mountain. The inn has a rustic flair but nothing feels old or dated. Everything was spotlessly clean. The tatami rooms and futons were really comfy. The onsen bath was really nice - you can book a timeslot and have it to yourself. This was really nice for us as a couple because it meant we could bath together instead of going to seperate baths. From the outdoor bath you have a nice view of a forested slope which is very peaceful. If you stay here, I highly recommend booking with dinner and/or breakfast. Not only because there are not many other food options around, but also because the dinner was really delicious and included really cool local veggies that I did not eat anywhere else in Japan! The best thing about the inn are the hosts. They were really welcoming and helpful! And the bird mascot is really cute too :)
