Small, very charming, family-run hotel. It is just opposite some facilities of the Harburg Technical University, and just 20 minutes on foot from to two train stations: Hamburg-Harburg for intercity trains, and Harburg-Rathaus, from where you can take the S-Bahn to Hamburg Centrum. Breakfast was very good. Not a buffet, but my table was laid out with a selection of home-made marmalades, fresh rolls, cheeses, and I had some good coffee from an espresso machine plus a boiled egg. The breakfast room has quite a loft-like atmosphere: a bright, large room built into the former freight hold of the ship, with portholes, comfy sofas and restaurant-tables. The room I stayed in was quite spacious and bright. It had two large glazed deck hatches, and a porthole, all of which can be opened for ventilation. The ceiling is very high – the full height of the former freight hold. The private bathroom is small(ish), but well laid-out. Mine had a large walk-in shower to one side, and under-floor heating. I suspect the others do as well. Despite being on a ship you hardly hear any noise from the adjacent rooms. Everything is well-insulated, and the heating works very well, too. I stayed on two rather chilly winter nights and you would not have guessed from the temperature that you were on a ship – no issues with condensation, either. There is a trust-based system with a fridge containing a selection of very good organic beers, wines and alcohol-free beverages you can help yourself to around the clock. You pay by depositing some money into an oil-can sitting next to the fridge.
