The hostel is very warm and comfortable and makes you really feel like home. I arrived in Wakayama earlier and Hiroko-san allowed me to check in early. She’s very kind and accommodating and she suggested good local eats around. The hostel is very clean and organized and space is fully utilized. Notwithstanding, my room is very spacious. You will not have problem with shared amenities. I will definitely stay here again.

A guesthouse with absolutely nothing to complain about and a host very friendly an welcoming. They will help you with everything you might need, so it is just on you to ask. Everything is well marked and described in multiple languages and the host is english speaking very well. The room was spacious with bunk beds comfortable to sleep on, table, sofa and a computer free to use. To kitchen areas with enough utensiles to prepare small meals (microwave, kettles, stove top etc.). Everything was clean and well maintained. If you are traveling with heavy suitcases ask for a room on the ground floor. Otherwise you need to walk a rather steep staircase. The river, castle and other sightseeing places are in walking distance or local busses can be used as well. Information about the surroundings (e.g. restaurants, shopping, supper markets etc.) are provided in written form and the host gives you also information "by locals" tailored to your interests. Next time in Wakayama, I will stay here again.

Probably one of my favorite stays ever. I love the privacy and anonymity of this kind of capsule rooms, I loved the cleanliness and the impeccable staff (the hostel is located within a hotel, and the encounters with staff also feel like hotel rather than hostel - if you get my point), I loved the train station location, and - of course - the highlight, which is the spa-like bathroom included in the price. Having the opportunity of bathing and relaxing in an "onsen" every day is a big drawcard of "THE S3 Wakayama Station". And it's very, very affordable - not the cheapest but definitely one of the cheapest hostels in Japan. A true price-to-value ratio winner. The strategical location of Wakayama City - close to both Osaka, Nara and the Kii Mountains, and super close to Kansai airport - while being cheaper and quieter than Osaka and other nearby hubs, makes this a great wound-licking hideout, or a perfect hassle free layover spot.
