I tried to book their hostel again, but they were fully booked! Luckily, I switched to their homestay, and the service was just as wonderful. While the location is a little out of town, the fantastic service completely made up for it! The room was spotlessly clean, and their bed was seriously comfortable. Being able to watch Netflix right in my room? That’s a luxury I rarely found throughout my trip in Indonesia!

Accommodation is great value. Property, bedroom, bathroom and kitchen were super clean. Bed and AC were comfortable. We booked the Ijen tour with the host Johan and had a great experience. Price seemed fair. We got helpful recommendations from Johan's nephew for local spots. Johan offers other tours we wished we could have taken advantage of (but we had to move on to our next destination). We'd stay here again!

Offering a garden and mountain view, Maison Manendra - Bromo is located in Gubukklakah, 22 km from Mount Bromo and 25 km from Velodrome Malang. I had a wonderful stay at this charming family-run hotel. The hospitality was warm and personal, and the home-cooked meals, especially dinner, were absolutely delicious. Rani went above and beyond to help us secure a last minute jeep booking to visit Mt Bromo, which we really appreciated. The location was perfect—quiet, cool, and peaceful, making it a great escape from the city. Plus, the hotel is equipped with Starlink WiFi, which was fast and reliable enough for me to get some work done during the trip. Highly recommended!

Our stay at Indah Damai Cottages was absolutely wonderful – truly a home away from home. The cottages are beautiful, offering a serene atmosphere and a fantastic view of the volcano, ensuring a peaceful night's sleep. What truly made our experience unforgettable were the incredibly kind staff and owners. They treated us like family, going above and beyond to make us feel welcome. We especially loved the memorable jeep tour through their vast and beautiful garden. Each evening was special, and we were even given a generous supply of fresh fruit for our onward journey. Indah Damai Cottages is a gem, filled with lovely people and a warm, inviting ambiance. Highly recommended!

Offering mountain views, Mountain Ecolodge is an accommodation situated in Gubukklakah, 24 km from Bentoel Museum and 25 km from Bima Sakti Hall. This is the biggest surprise of my Indonesia trip! This place located in a small town near Malang. It runs by a family and Mrs. Mary took 2 of her independent rooms as hotel. There is super nice mountain view and the whole atmosphere is sooo chill. The room is quite big. The host even gave us some passion fruits and papaya grown from their farm. It is not far from Mt. Bromo and Tumpak Sewu - both takes 1.5h to drive there. There are hardly any tourists in this small town and when we were walking to a restaurant, the people were so curious and greeting us friendly, the kids on the street waved to us and say hello. It was such an amazing experience! The sunset of with rice field view in the small town is also really really beautiful. There is also a good and modern restaurant 20 min walk from our stay and it is designed to see the sunset with a big balcony, the food is very nice too

Situated in Banyuwangi, 38 km from Watu Dodol, Lintang Luku Tent Resort Ijen, Banyuwangi features accommodation with free bikes, free private parking, a garden and a terrace. 10/10 experience. Crazy to think that I woke up to the gentle sound of birds chirping and river flowing. The views I enjoyed from my bed were surreal. My tent was comfortable and had all the things I needed. Alas Restaurant was superb: food excellent, the views unbeatable. Truly a great experience!

The place is run by an amazing Indonesian couple, very helpful and ready to help you with everything you need. Clean place, good location, good breakfast and they help you with laundry and scooter rental. Of course the queen of the place is Starla the cat.
