Breakfast was good, we tried the banana pancakes and fried noodles. The real standout of our stay was Kaesa, who was amazingly friendly and helpful. This may be the best homestay host I've ever met, so enthusiastic and happy to help with anything. He gave lots of advice and recommendations, from good prices to pay for fruit to how to ask for vegetarian food and what to expect on the hiking route. Would absolutely recommend!

There is so much to like about M2 Homestay....Jun,the owner,speaks very good English and is very helpful.Within minutes of my arrival he had organised a car and driver to take me to Parapat,the next place I wanted to visit....The room was super clean and sleep quality was excellent.The bathroom had plenty of hot water and the shower was excellent...The staff were super friendly-even Jun's son Mikail who is only twelve and yet has perfect English....The location was ideal-a short walk to an excellent restaurant and close to the centre of Berastagi...I am happy to give this place top marks...10 out of 10...Worth returning to.

Our three-night stay at Matraville Homestay was a very welcome change-of-pace after jungle treks and volcano hikes in Bukit Lawang and Berestagi. Our unit was VERY large (it would have easily suited a family of four) and well-appointed with a TV, fridge, sink and kettle for use. It was also spread over two levels, with the downstairs serving as the entrance/living room area/kitchenette, and the bedroom and bathroom/separate shower area upstairs. BONUS(ES): the unit entrance featured a little patio with a table and chair where you could have an early-morning coffee or tea while facing the sunrise; the upstairs level also provided a small balcony area to take in the morning sun or evening dusk. While the room we chose was across the street from the water (a 90-second walk at most, down a couple of shallow flights of steps, and therefore didn’t provide a direct waterfront view), there are two rooms available in another portion of the property that face the water and are just steps from it. Our excellent Host, Dimmer, picked us up from the Tuk Tuk ferry landing (and can also drop you off when you depart) and will provide you with everything you might need to make your stay comfortable, including tips on places to eat or have coffee nearby and suggestions for what to do/see on Samosir Island. He will also provide scooters for daily/multi-day use for very reasonable rates.

She's very kind and gives very good advices, so you can trust her to organise a treck in the forest. I did it and it was a magic moment ( and physical ! ). I love Bukit Lawang, it's a very beautiful place and you can trust me : go to Rambai Tree Jungle lodge you will love it !

The place is beautiful and quiet. The staff is amazing, very helpful. They also offer trekkings to the jungle. I did a 3-day trekking. It was the best. We saw orang-utans, had delicious food and the guides were very knowledgeable.

The guides were knowledgeable and clearly passionate about the environment, always respectful of the wildlife. The hosts were incredibly welcoming and helpful, making us feel at home right away. The accommodation was clean and comfortable. A perfect way to experience the jungle in a responsible and memorable way.
