Staying at the School House felt like summer camp meets a cozy farm visit with my cousins, with a sprinkle of grade school nostalgia. The care and creativity they pour into every detail made us feel less like guests and more like family. It was sparkling clean, delightfully charming, and filled with kindness you can’t quite put into words. My only regret? We didn’t stay longer. So until we return, go enjoy it for me and my son—we’re already missing it.

The room was very spacious and fully equipped with everything I needed: two beds, fridge, kitchen, microwave, and even a washer/dryer. The location is perfect, just a 3-minute walk from the station. 600 metres from Shirakawago, Shirakawago Guest House Kei is set in Shirakawa and offers rooms with free WiFi. All rooms feature a kitchen and a shared bathroom. We have been traveling Japan for almost 2 months now, and this was by far our favorite place to stay. The host is very sweet, accommodating and attractive. The view from the place was great. There was cheap snacks, beers, water, vine available. I big nice common room, where you felt welcome. Just a wonderful experience. Would stay here again any time. We stayed there for four nights. There was free green tea and drip coffee. And the tea kitchen was clean, and had all the essentials for simple cooking.

Effective October 1, 2025, a lodging tax will be introduced by ordinance of Takayama City. In addition to the room charge, 100 yen per person per day will be charged. Cozy and warm place to stay. Has a good meeting place and wifi speed was great. The staff was very friendly.
