We had a fantastic stay at Uno Hotel during our visit to Naoshima, the art island. The location is perfect, just a short walk from the ferry terminal, which made everything very convenient. The traditional Japanese rooms were truly special. Beautifully designed, spacious, and full of character, they added to the overall experience. The atmosphere throughout the hotel was calm and welcoming. The staff were outstanding. Easily the best English we encountered during our trip, and always helpful and attentive. Breakfast was a highlight. We chose the traditional Japanese option, which was beautifully presented and delicious. It also included five different juices, a nice touch that stood out. We did not have time to use the onsen next to the hotel, even though it was included in the rate. It is a great extra for anyone staying longer. While not the cheapest hotel of our trip, it was probably the highest in quality. We would absolutely stay here again and recommend it to anyone visiting Naoshima

The most wonderful and stylish ryokan. The chef is a magician and the staff is so caring, helpful and lovely. The interior is full of style and thoughts. This is a brand new hotel on the outskirts of town and it is now our new favorite hotel in Japan! There is so much to live about this hotel: - rooms are large by Japanese standards - beds were incredibly comfortable with soft mattresses - there are two different height pillows to choose from - beds were wider than usual for a twin room - the shower is a proper tiled shower with room to move, not a modular bathroom with the shower in the bath - with only 3 floors, we never had to wait for an elevator, unlike larger hotels with many floors - we did not hear any sounds from other guests while we were in our room - the soundproofing is amazing - there was very little road noise in our room, and what there was, wasn't enough to disrupt our sleep - there is a partition you can slide across to make a wall between the bedroom and the front door, giving you that extra layer of sound protection - there is a communal eating area downstairs with free coffee (freshly ground beans), a microwave, a grill and an ice machine. There is no restaurant in the hotel, but there is a Lawson next door, so we just grabbed a microwave dinner and breakfast from there and ate in our room or in the communal area. - the staff spoke English - the decor is wonderfully tasteful - value for money! We've stayed at much older and less comfortable hotels in Japan for double the price.

ALL the staff were exceptionally friendly, nice & helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them. They made the atmosphere feel more like you were staying at someone’s home, not a hotel. The room was quite spacious compared to other places I have stayed in while in Japan. There was a separate individualized bathroom nearby, and its shower was particularly nice.
