It had been a fantastic stay at the Biwafront Hotel for our family vacation. The hotel staffs wearing cute Christmas outfits greeted us from afar in a cold and snowy day while our car was driving towards the hotel’s entrance. Check-in process was very nice and smooth. We were taken to our rooms and were explained in detail about the hotel’s offering. Special credits went to Kawaguchi Miyoko 川口美代子who had treated us so well with the hospitality she has offered us. We enjoyed our stay immensely. When we checked out, staffs helped with our bulky bags and loaded them to our car. They even waited in the cold weather and waved goodbye to us until the very moment when our car actually pulled away from the hotel. Their attention to details in making us feel very special. We will definitely come back again for more!

The staff were really friendly and made us feel at home, the location was excellent and central, and the room was clean and comfortable. The snacks were a great touch after a long day of travel. Well worth the effort to travel to experience a lovely ryokan, it's host and the town. I paid for dinner and I'm SO glad I did. It was a highlight of my stay and in deed a highlight of my 5 week trip in Japan. You sit in a sunken seating area and watch the ryokan owner/cook prepare what felt like a large number of individual dishes. The food was absolutely delicious. I was concerned about hearing other guests because, being an older house, the walls are thin - but the night I was there all the guests were respectfully quiet. I had a view over the "river" which may be a mis-nomer - but it is a peaceful stream running through the pretty street. I highly recommend a visit.

The host was incredibly kind and welcoming. He prepared the home to be very clean and cozy for our arrival. When he took us to the train station, I absentmindedly forgot my bag at the house, and he went out of his way to drive back and bring it to me at the station—such a thoughtful gesture! The home itself was exceptionally clean and spacious, with a peaceful atmosphere and fresh air that my family absolutely loved. Thank you so much for hosting us!

Marumo Ryokan is an authentic Japanese ryokan and is hands down the best we’ve ever stayed at. The rooms are beautiful and spacious, it is impeccably clean, and the meals are a delicious traditional feast. The hosts are very accommodating and thoughtful. We took the train to Omi-Iwazu and then rode back to Omi-Takashima, where we rented bikes to visit the Shirahige shrine. We also went to Makino to spend some time at the beach. Our entire group of five wished we had planned to stay for 2 or 3 nights instead of one. It was a wonderful retreat from the hustle and bustle of the rest of our trip and we would hands down all choose to stay there again!

The entire stay from check in to check out was exceptional. We went as a family with our 4yo and 8mo and they had all the facilities we needed including high chairs (a selection) for the kids as well as a kids menu, toy borrowing service and books. The public baths were beautiful. Make sure to try them all! We had the kaiseki dinner in a private room which was delicious and meant the kids being a little noisy didn't bother anyone. Our room overlooked Lake Biwa and it was very comfortable.
