Located in Yamagata, 17 km from Zao Onsen Ski Resort, Daiwa Roynet Hotel Yamagata Ekimae provides accommodation with a fitness centre, private parking and massage services. Great hotel near the Yamagata Station, about 5 minutes walk. The room was quite spacious and clean. It was easy to comunicate with the staff as they spoke perfect English. For breakfast we had to choose Western style set or Japanese style. We liked everything about our stay. Highly recommend!

Ski in/ski out, amazing breakfast each morning, very friendly staff. The drying room was very well set up and the shared bathroom clean. Lots of food options nearby.

Featuring an open-air bath, Kameya Hotel is located in the Yunohama Onsen district of Tsuruoka, only 3.5 km from Kamo Aquarium. This ryokan provides free private parking and a 24-hour front desk. Amazing history and gardens. Rooms were enormous, with open views of the beach and with a cedar bathtub fed by hot springs in the room.

Situated in Tendo in the Yamagata region, Ichiraku tendo spa & brewery features accommodation with free private parking, as well as access to a hot spring bath. Cool concept with the brewery onsen combo, tasty beer, personal service, delicious and varied dinner and breakfast. Had a small yukata for baby as well! Great stay

Takasagoya Ryokan offers a public bath, as well as air-conditioned accommodation in Zao Onsen, 200 metres from Zao Onsen Ski Resort. The room size, staff service and food was spectacular. It was as competitive as the service I experienced in Kamikochi.

Boasting natural hot spring baths, Hohoemino Kuyufu Tsuruya is located a 15-minute walk from JR Tendo Station, 50 km from Sendai. Beautiful property. The room was spacious! Even for Western standards. The private onsen was very nice. We did not try the public onsen. The staff were courteous and helpful. Although the staff had limited English proficiency, they all used a translation app to help with communication which was incredibly helpful.

Situated in Zao Onsen in the Yamagata region, with Zao Onsen Ski Resort nearby, Matsupokkuri features accommodation with free WiFi and free private parking. The ryokan has family rooms. The hotel is staying in beginning of village, opposite of bus stop. Very convenient to go to ski station by walking (from 7-10 minutes depend on which station you want to go for ski). There are restaurants just next to hotel. Public onsen is 2 minute walk but they have their own small onsen inside hotel. Host is super kind. For restaurant, recommend to book in advance. Food is delicious in this village but price is higher than all other ski resort that we had been such as Nozawa onsen. Renting equipment for ski is super easy. There are shops in all stations with different price. Cheaper to go to station 1 with big Ski center.

Guests at Hayamakan can enjoy traditional multi-course meals and relax in the indoor/outdoor hot-spring baths. The hotel picked us up at the JR station in town. The hotel staff are very helpful. The room was great, our semi-outdoor bath looked out into a little garden. They had a small outdoor onsen, perfect for a cold winter evening. Our set breakfast and dinner were fantastic, as we had a private dining room. The complimentary drinks were a nice welcome for a cold wet day.

Located just 24 km from Kamo Aquarium, Tamonkan features accommodation in Tsuruoka with access to a garden, a terrace, as well as a concierge service. As you stepped into the Ryokan you could feel the history seeping from its walls, as it has been in Yuki's family for over 100 years. You get a sense of the fellow travellers who have passed through and experienced great hospitality like we did, from Toki_san and Yuki. They gave us great recommendations of the local area too. Dinner is a definite must when you stay here as you eat, delicious food from the mountains and local area.

Located within a 10-minute walking distance from the Zao Sky Cable aerial lift, Miyamaso Takamiya features 9 natural hot spring baths for guests to enjoy. Excellent all around. Amazing food and kind staff who were very attentive and accomodating. Hertiage buikding was an amazing serene setting for a holiday.
