Ski in/ski out, amazing breakfast each morning, very friendly staff. The drying room was very well set up and the shared bathroom clean. Lots of food options nearby.

Featuring an open-air bath, Kameya Hotel is located in the Yunohama Onsen district of Tsuruoka, only 3.5 km from Kamo Aquarium. This ryokan provides free private parking and a 24-hour front desk. Amazing Hotel, even though it is a very traditional and old place, the rooms are very modern and renovated with all the amenities one can think of. Onsen is good too, but very hot. The beach is literally just across the road! The rooms all have an ocean view. Staff is extremely friendly and breakfast is also great. Just watch out to book dinner if possible, as there are not many options to eat around town if you don’t want to take the car.

Boasting natural hot spring baths, Hohoemino Kuyufu Tsuruya is located a 15-minute walk from JR Tendo Station, 50 km from Sendai. Beautiful property. The room was spacious! Even for Western standards. The private onsen was very nice. We did not try the public onsen. The staff were courteous and helpful. Although the staff had limited English proficiency, they all used a translation app to help with communication which was incredibly helpful.

Guests at Hayamakan can enjoy traditional multi-course meals and relax in the indoor/outdoor hot-spring baths. The hotel picked us up at the JR station in town. The hotel staff are very helpful. The room was great, our semi-outdoor bath looked out into a little garden. They had a small outdoor onsen, perfect for a cold winter evening. Our set breakfast and dinner were fantastic, as we had a private dining room. The complimentary drinks were a nice welcome for a cold wet day.

Located within a 10-minute walking distance from the Zao Sky Cable aerial lift, Miyamaso Takamiya features 9 natural hot spring baths for guests to enjoy. One of the best ryokans we’ve stayed at in Japan. The location feels straight out of a Ghibli movie, with over 300 years of history and an amazing atmosphere. We stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed some of the best Japanese food each day at the ryokan restaurant. Since both me and my partner have tattoos, we booked the private onsen every evening through reception. The real highlight was the staff. They went above and beyond to make our stay special, spoke good conversational English, and checked in daily to ensure everything was perfect. Highly recommended for an authentic, cozy ryokan experience!

Situated in Yamagata, Guesthouse Mintaro Hut features accommodation with free private parking. The 1-star guest house has air-conditioned rooms with a shared bathroom and free WiFi. It was a warm and cozy house. I still vividly remember the scene—drinking hot coffee with a cute little cat by my side, soft music playing in the background, casually chatting with guests from another country, while the firewood crackled, the woods burned, and snow gently fell outside. I truly believe these memories will continue to heal me in the future. The food the hosts made was so delicious. Thank you so much for the wonderful food and heartfelt hospitality. This house truly gave me a feeling of home. I felt really sad on my way to the airport 🥲 I’ll definitely be back soon!!!

The Onsen was wonderful and in a great location we had a great breakfast with lots of options. Dinner was a beautiful traditional Japanese cuisine.
