Situated in Jaffna, 1.9 km from Nallur Kandaswamy Temple, Thambu Illam features accommodation with a garden, free private parking and a restaurant. Thambu illam was one of my favourite stays in Sri Lanka! I felt at home and comfortable. The staff were amazing including the night time security, Joseph, who kept us company and shared his story while we stayed up past midnight. Mathu the manager checked in with us when we didn’t arrive on time for our booking and he responded quickly to messages. The supervisor was exceptionally helpful and got us almost anything we requested for our meals. Thambu illam brings you a feeling of being in your ancestral home and the little details they paid attention makes it even magical. We will definitely come back here to stay with our family on our next trip.

Amazing host, amazing food, very convenient location near the temple with a number of other food options nearby or only a short tuk tuk away. Breakfast was absolutely amazing and filling. The room was a good size.

Allens home stay, a property with a terrace, is set in Jaffna, 600 metres from Nallur Kandaswamy Temple, 1.5 km from Jaffna Railway Station, as well as 2.6 km from Jaffna Public Library. Allen, as mentioned over and over in other reviews, is the best host EVER. This kind of people makes the difference when traveling like we do, where the main goal is to enjoy the culture and people, as much as the places we visit. Allen went way beyond expectations on helping us with whatever we may need (from train schedules, arranging a great driver for a day-long tour, giving us recommendations for local places, to taking his bike and buying us some cold beers after hours, or getting up to prepare us an unusually early morning breakfast to go, due to our very early schedule), overall making us feel like his true guests despite the commercial relationship. Well-travelled, Jaffna-native but with many years in Europe, Allen is the kind of person that you hope you have more time to get to know better, and that will remain as a highlight of any trip. The property is his own home, where you rent some rooms. It is a very quiet spot in a green and shady compound in a cul-de-sac, a great respite from some of the Jaffna frenzy. Located a quick 5-min. tuk-tuk ride from the train station, it is also near the main Hindu temple of the city, a couple of blocks away. The room we rented had its own exclusive bathroom, but crossing the living room. There was another room with a full private bathroom, not available at the time. The house has a quaint feeling, very cozy and clean. The AC in the room worked fine and it was very welcomed. Breakfast was great, abundant and tasty, prepared by Allen on the spot.

Our room was fantastic. We had a living room area with a big TV and good English channels. There is a large fridge to keep your drinks and snacks cold. A table with 2 chairs for sitting at if working or to use for making coffee or tea with the kettle and mugs provided. A separate bedroom with a large king bed was super comfortable. The mattress was not too hard and the linen was pure cotton. A light duvet is perfect for the temperature. The pillows were 2 per person, 1 king and 1 normal and also so comfortable. We had a good-sized cupboard to hang our clothes, a safe, and an ironing board. The bathroom was en-suite with a good, hot shower, toilet, and basin. The bedroom opened up onto a backyard patio with comfortable benches to sit on if you wanted to be outside but still at your room. The aircon in both the living room and bedroom worked perfectly. They also provide a large umbrella for your use. The swimming pool is lovely, with deck chairs, soft cushions, and shade provided. They also give you swimming pool towels. There is a good-sized gym which we did not use but it looked fully stocked with all the necessary equipment. We ordered room service a few times and the service and food were very good. The actual dining room is fantastic and we enjoyed an evening feasting on a Sri Lankan buffet with loads of different dishes. The staff were all amazing and so helpful. We were able to park our car on the premises where a full-time guard is stationed. They even washed the car for us. It was sad to say goodbye but we loved our stay here in Jaffna.

Set 3.6 km from Nallur Kandaswamy Temple, Munril Guest offers accommodation in Jaffna with access to a hot tub. Private parking is available on site at this recently renovated property. We had a lovely experience! Kristy and Dushan were really helpful and the guest house is a beautiful building. Comfortable, quiet, a quick tuk tuk ride (or Kristy’s car when available) into town. The communal kitchen was very much appreciated. Kristy is very passionate about the local heritage and working to develop tourism. He helped us organise tours with a very good guide (Jenna) which were brilliant. Highly recommend.

Offering a garden and garden view, Leela Resort is situated in Karainagar, 21 km from Jaffna Public Library and 22 km from Jaffna Railway Station. We had a great time in there, It's very clean calm and quite place. The food they served was very delicious. Specialty Thanks for Kami the owner for your attention about the customers. The Chapters, a property with a garden, is situated in Jaffna, 5.3 km from Jaffna Railway Station, 6 km from Jaffna Public Library, as well as 6.5 km from Jaffna Fort. The house and bathrooms were spotless and exceptionally clean. The host and manager were both very helpful and welcoming. We had the chance to enjoy an authentic Jaffna meal prepared by their cook, and it was absolutely delicious! The crab curry and mutton curry were iconic, I’ve started loving the unique spice and flavor of Jaffna-style cooking. The environment was peaceful and relaxing; waking up every morning to the sound of birds chirping and taking evening walks around the beautiful garden were truly mesmerizing experiences. Our kids especially enjoyed playing with the village-style pump set every day — such a lovely, authentic touch. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and hope to come back soon! - Naveed Ashraf-
