We absolutely loved our stay at Protea cottage. The setting itself is so beautiful as you are surrounded by open fields and their garden. The cottage is set off separately from their house and has a huge sliding glass door that opens up to a patio, and there is even a picnic table for your use right in front of the cottage. The cottage itself is super clean, very comfortably furnished, and has one of the most fully equipped kitchens I have ever stayed in. I highly recommend this accommodation as a place to stay and explore this area.

I love the self service aspect, we booked our stay with very little notice and rolled in after 7pm. Followed the instructions on the reception door to call a number and we were helped right away. There are lock boxes with the key, they give you a code and boom you're in. I love how quiet it is, and it backs on to a farm with sheep out the window, just stunning. Great price, great service and such a cute tiny home.

I love the location close to the Ruamahanga River. Our hosts allowed us a late check-out which gave me time to pop down to the river and catch a number of trout on the fly rod before our departure. We enjoyed walking around the garden, tasting some of the wines and learning more about recent vintages and characteristics the region for wines.
