Traveling in rural Japan isn’t easy, but Darkhorse made our trip way better than expected. Andy and his team really put their heart into this lovely place, it has the charm of Japanese countryside but run with professional care. - The room: we stayed in the two bedroom, it was spacious and clean with brand-new heater, toilet and shower. - Food: breakfast was great, western style and Japanese style were both provided. - Facilities: amazing onsen on the 1st floor, and the lobby has a fireplace, can do bar and Japanese bbq here. - Pet-friendly: Yes! Andy and Rika’s dogs are cute! - Nearby: walking distance to a wetland and rice fields, the snow scenery is stunning. It’s also close to Lake Aoki, where many people visit the lakeside cafe. - Transportation: the hotel arranged station and ski resort pick-up. Feel free to ask if you need a private ride to other parts of Nagano, their tour service is great!

What a wonderful place run by a wonderful family. From the moment I arrived I felt welcomed and comfortable. Summer Leaves is a family run place and you immediately feel welcomed by this family. Breakfast was simple but great, a good variety and freshly made (not buffet.) Location is great, quite but close to everything.

Situated in Hakuba and only 11 km from Tsugaike Kogen Ski Area, Log Cottage KUROITA features accommodation with mountain views, free WiFi and free private parking. The property is beautiful and comfortable. It is a separate private cabin that is attached to the outside of the hosts' home, with your own private entrance, bedroom, kitchen, shower+tub, and toilet . The location is very quiet and peaceful with nice views of the mountainside. You also get your own drying room with a separate heater, which is great for storing and drying ski gear each night. The location is perfect, it is a 1 minute walk away from a shuttle stop with free shuttles to Happo-One, Iwatake, Goryu, and 47. It is a 10-15 minute walk to central Echoland and restaurants. The hosts are great people. They are very kind and helpful. We were able to communicate easily through messaging and Google translate, and they were very responsive. They even offered to take us grocery shopping, got us seats at a good restaurant, and took us to the ski resort one morning. Their dog is cute too. They will make you feel welcome during your stay. We loved our stay and can't wait to come back!

Featuring 2-star accommodation, Hakuba Bears Lodge Echoland is set in Hakuba, 9.3 km from Tsugaike Kogen Ski Area and 43 km from Nagano Station. We loved that it was dog friendly ! the resident puppy Gunnar was very cute and very well behaved ! The rooms were great, very comfortable beds ! We also loved sitting and chatting with the managers and staff - they were all very kind and welcoming !

Located 25 km from Zenkoji Temple, iorimokkou provides accommodation in Ogawa with access to a sauna. It is situated 27 km from Nagano Station and features a shared kitchen. The owner went all out to give me a enjoyable stay ! He picked me up from Hakuba and delivered me back the next morning, showing me the sights along the way. The views from the hotel are breathtaking and the sauna and hot bath are just a bonus. Breakfast was delicious ! Definitely worth a visit ! Highly reccommended !
