What a pleasant surprise we got when we reached this hotel....we did not know it was a pet hotel! As both of us love dogs we had a wonderful time. Free hot dogs between 8 and 10 p.m. each night. A fabulous big room with our own sitting room. Just 15 minute walk to subway station, and good value for money.

Gallery Nozawa Inn offers accommodation in Kyoto, 25 minutes on foot from JR Kyoto Station. Free WiFi is available throughout the property. Every room includes a flat-screen TV and air conditioning. Repeat visit, and I was really looking forward to staying at Gallery Nozawa Inn for a while week. There are just two rooms, and I took the room at the back, which is smaller and has a little "verandah". The inn is in a traditional Kyoto Townhouse in Shimabara, which is not really on tourists radar, and therefore not that busy, which I love. Very atmospheric, with quite a few older buildings, a refurbished lovely old sento and a bigger "super sento" in the neighbourhood, as well as a few restaurants. A JR train station is about 8min walk away. There are buses, too, but you'll walk about 10min to a bus stop. In theory, you can easily walk to Downtown and Kyoto Station if you have good legs. The couple who own and run the inn are lovely and hospitable, and speak some English. Really, the rooms are equipped with everything you could think of, and there is a small communal landing with a fridge, some dinnerware and a microwave, and it is possible to eat in your room. There is also a very large shared bath - didn't use it but I went to several sento because I love sento. Toilet is private and inside the unit but not the bedroom, in the traditional Japanese style - mine was off a small anteroom where I kept my clothes, while my bedroom had plenty of room for a futon and a dining table. I intended to rent a bicycle and was told that I can keep it in the house overnight, and when I set off in the morning, I was given a thermos of hot tea for my bicycle ride. My clothes were washed (they offered to wash clothes for me every day), and the room was thoroughly cleaned and replenished with fresh tea and lovely sweets every day. I think I know my way through Kyoto fairly well as a tourist, but was given great advice on places to visit, and lots of practical tips, too. Oh, and there is a cute dog, too. I really loved my week here.

Open from 2016, Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto features a Western-style restaurant and a tea house by a pond in Shakusuien Japanese garden as well as a lounge. Kyoto Station is a 7-minute drive away. Amazing food, beautiful rooms, central location and as always at a four seasons the best service.

A 10-minute walk from the JR Kyoto Train Station, Takigawa Ryokan features comfortable Japanese-style rooms with tatami (woven-straw) flooring. Traditional hotel. Wonderful staff. Onsen was great.

The host was so kind, a family owned business! It was really comfortable and it felt like I was staying at home. Watched TV in the living room, rented their bike, and everything was really clean. They also offer pick -up from Miyazu Station which was very convenient. I would stay here again.

Location was amazing, even if you mainly use JR line which is only 5 mins away. The rooms were spacious on both floors, and the bath was really nice. The futon were really comfortable.

Ima-ya is located near the rice fields where the owners grow rice. Beyond the rice fields is a forest in which there is a Fox temple which the owner Tutsuji took us to on a walk around in the afternoon.There were many birds who are encouraged by the rice farmers as they help keep pests away. This is a quiet place close to nature with good food and a traditional style of Japanese house. It was an authentic experience of Japanese rural life. The hosts Nom and Tatsuji are very friendly and accommodating.
