We chose Kikuchi instead of Kumamoto, to get away from the city before our trip to Mt Aso. We got a lovely country house, but the main benefit was the lovely couple who hosted us. Super friendly and helpful. I enjoyed breakfast, my wife skipped hers, so the host packed it as a bento box for our lunch. Vegetables from the garden. A guided visit to the forest to see fireflies. Tastes of local food and drink. It was if we were lodging with my favourite aunt and uncle.

Set 45 km from Crasus Dome Oita, Enokiya Ryokan offers 3-star accommodation in Yufu and features an open-air bath. Amazing place, staff is very friendly, private Onsens are very nice, location is amazing. The room was very clean and with beautiful details and the bed was super comfy.

Yufuin-Sanso Waremokou offers large Japanese-style rooms boasting an open-air cypress hot spring bath, sweeping nature and city views and a massage chair. We are surprised that our room has three onsens and we love them. The size of the room is big and and cleaned. The dinner and breakfast are very good with everyday different menu. The staffs are helpful and most of them are Nepalese. The speak Japanese and English so easy to communicate.
