We stayed at the Backwoods Lodge during our trip from Anchorage to Fairbanks over Thanksgiving week 2025. The location was perfect — tucked away in a quiet spot yet convenient for exploring the area. The owners were incredibly welcoming and went out of their way to make us feel at home. Our room was spacious, spotless, and thoughtfully decorated, making it a cozy retreat after long days on the road. They were flexible when we needed to adjust our reservation, which we really appreciated, and they provided plenty of helpful local tips about dining, sightseeing, and travel conditions. It’s clear they genuinely care about their guests’ experience. Overall, Backwoods Lodge exceeded our expectations. If you’re traveling through Alaska and want a comfortable stay with genuine hospitality, this is the place to book.

This was a superb little place. Ideally located to get to the train station (only 300 metres away) and just one block from downtown. Lovely owners. Good basic breakfast included. One of the best places I have stayed in.
