Ferntree Gully is the nearest large centre with shopping as you are heading up to Upwey, Kalista, Olinda and Sassafras. On the highway, it has the 3 big shopping centres, lots of different shops and a great bakery called the Quarry which does quality sourdough and pastries. We use it as a base to visit family in the area when we aren't up for spending $$$ on bnb's in the Dandenongs.Guest review bySergioAustralia - 10.0
We liked the rural aspect of the town.
We liked the rural aspect of the town. As we came for a private function, we didn't have any time to explore the local attractions. As we have been there before we have seen some of the area. I particularly liked travelling up Mt Dandenong to Olinda for the eateries and the gift shops. We found that we needed a car to get around.Guest review byLORRAINEAustralia - 10.0

We had a beautiful stay at Forest Cottage — peaceful, cozy, and everything we needed. Jessica was a lovely and attentive host. The breakfast supplies were generous, the bed incredibly comfy, and we loved the fireplace (with all firewood provided!). The area around the cottage offers plenty of options for hiking, cycling, scenic lookouts, and reconnecting with nature. Everything was clean, well maintained, and full of thoughtful details — from a delicious house-made liqueur to a well-stocked minibar. We would absolutely come back!Guest review bySabrinaAustralia - 10.0

Our room was perfect, the bed was wonderful, even my husband who is a poor sleeper, slept well, the shower was fantastic and the patio was a delightful surprise complete with a pond and wildlife to help unwind and relax. The rooms are stage in a way that you feel like you are on your own but if you had children, there was space for them to burn energy and be cooped in a room. Dinner in the bistro was just normal food, not special but good and the staff everywhere were friendly and smiled, i appreciated the smiles. a few miles up the road was the township of Mt Evelyn where wee found yummy bakeries and shops to explore and nearby nursuries often had breakfasts. You need to stay here.Guest review bySueAustralia - 10.0

Beautiful walks, birdlife is superb(we even saw a lyrebird), and encountered a wombat several times. Weather ranged from sunny, heavy rain, fog and mist but the forest and walk to the Falls were incredible.Guest review byMariaAustralia - 10.0

Beautiful area, great food, interesting shops with lots of local artisans, lovely walks in gardens and forest. We spent most of our time in Olinda. You definitely benefit from having a car here. We had the most amazing meal at Citrine.Guest review byJane66Australia - 10.0

We love Emerald, we lived there quite a few years ago and returned to see friends who still live there. Beautiful walks, Emerald Lake is just lovely to visit, there is a cafe there also and Puffing Billy is always a delight to hear. Lots of other towns to see alsoGuest review byBrianAustralia - 10.0

Liked the Sassafras high street, we ate dinner at House of Fras which served a real decent steak on Steak Night (though another dish spaggetini was a little overdone). Marples Tea Room served hot bready scones, though expensive at $17.50 for 2 scones. Proprietor however does not follow her own opening hours, and exhibited aggressive behaviour towards us (long story but she ended up throwing our takeaway packaging at people she mistook for us) The chicken parmigiana at the Pig & Whistle in the next town of Olinda was most delightful (big portion and tasty)Guest review byMalekSingapore - 2.0

It was the worst accommodation i stayed at and also overpriced. Toilet needs to be repaired. Also did not like the milk and juice put in jugs and not much food. The major put off was the disgusting smell in the small stuffy b&b. I would never book ever again and they go by two different namesGuest review byHelenAustralia - 2.0

I would not recommend this property until the drainage issues are fixed and there are adequate safety procedures in place. I believe the money paid for this stay should be refunded. It is unsuitable for Booking.comGuest review byAnonymous
