Great place to sip cocktails by the pool. A great place to stay after hiking the volcano and just doing nothing. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Excellent location for eating and shopping in the beautiful town center. But TAKE CARE about the so-called Tourist Guides outside of the hotel trying to sell guided tours. I pre-payed ONE HUNDRED EURO for an agreed price of two-hundred euro covering a full guided round-trip on Fogo island including volcano visit. When walking up an volcano the guide told me being only participant that the walk was a change in schedule and the full price would be ONE THOUSAND EURO - and that he had access to a credit card machine. I decided to leave the minibus and walk all the way back to Sao Philipe. Next day the host of Hotel Savana told me that he is an authorized tourist guide and the he did NOT do anything illegal - believe it or not...

Amazing location on the rocky lava coast, extremely pittoresque!! Very good cuisine by Catya! Nice hosts.

Du Santos is incredibly nice, as is his partner Hilde. He explains the history of his village (and thus family), proposes hikes and lead them, has a great cultural project and is very arranging. The two days we spent were great, filled with calm, starry nights and a feeling of being out in space in front of this volcano.

It was wondeful to stay here. VERY friendly and informative staff - good breakfast providing exactly what You need - comfortable bed - and real fast WiFi. On top of this came a FANTASTIC undisturbed view from the room to a wide canyon and to the Atlantic Ocean where the sound of the wawes gave a true feeling of tranquility. Also the location of the hotel was the BEST in town. On a beautiful square with the old cathedral on one side, the ocean on the other side and the hotel in between. Nothing could have been better for the moderate price. There is some renovation taking place but this gave NO PROBLEMS for my stay...
