Solange was a fantastic host and quickly made us feel at home. The house is quite basic but very charming. Beautiful sea views, which you can enjoy while relaxing on the hammock. The town centre is within 10 min walking distance.

We have really enjoyed our stay at Isolinda’s apartment. From start to finish we felt like at home. Isolinda has come to pick us at the airport and dropped at off after the stay. The house is located in very quiet neighbourhood and ideal for someone who wants to disconnect and be in the nature. The kitchen is fully equipped and has everything you need for cooking. There are 2 terraces to enjoy. The local Ponta Preta beach is very nice and you will be pretty much the only people enjoying it. At the main beach in town you can buy fresh fish daily and then enjoy cooking it or making a barbecue at home. The best part is the host Isolinda who always went out of her way to answer any questions and to give us recommendations. She always answered very quickly and nothing was too much trouble. Maio is a small island and you can visit most of the main points in one day either by hiring a car or doing a tour. It feels like going back in time where the pace of life is much slower. Everything is relaxed and no stress :) People are very nice and friendly, greet you on the street and smile. Overall we would highly recommend Isolinda’s apartment and we undoutebly will be back once traveling back in Maio. Thank you again for your hospitality.

I absolutely adored everything about Barracudamaio. Mona and Christophe have worked so hard to create a beautiful space for an exceptional travel experience. It's very close to a secluded beach where you can relax and have some alone time, as well as see the incredible turtles (with Christophe as your guide). I was taught upon arrival how to take a 'bulea' (free ride) with the locals, so very easy (and safe for solo female travellers) to catch a lift to the next town. The accommodation is exceptional in itself and is well thought out with sustainability in mind and furnished beautifully. They both shared their story over delicious dinners (thank you, Mona) about their journey in building Barracudamaio, and I think it's such a beautiful way to live and to help travellers understand the integrity behind creating a sustainable and welcoming space like theirs. Mona and Christophe are such wonderful people with a lot of life experience, and I am so glad to have had the chance to meet them on my travels. Oh and I love their two dogs, Lulu and Irmã. I am returning for my second stay next week - looking forward to seeing them all again! :)
