Everything, just everything. It's most likely the quirkiest place we've ever visited. Gary and Monika's imagination know no bounds. The British fare is exceptional, particularly the breakfast, and not forgetting the whale on a plate ... the fish n chips are to die for 🥰. Our hosts were most helpful and very friendly. Well, this was the third time I visited this hotel, so my experience is positive. I really love the views over the Ahr valley, from both the restaurant and the rooms (make sure you book a room with "Panoramablick"). Second main reason for coming back is the excellent restaurant. It is not exactly cheap, but worth every pfennig. They serve good local wines too. Staff is as you expect in Germany: friendly and very correct. The surroundings are very nice for hiking too, and if you have some extra time, there is lots of wine tasting to do in the area, and the city of Koblenz is not far away either.

The photos online just do not do this property justice. It was far better than our expectations. We were greeted kindly then offered vouchers for free bubbles, also free is coffee and waffles between 3-5pm on arrival. The restaurant decor was great and food was superb. Breakfast was one of the best we have had. They even had a room where you can make any kind of juices with racks of vegetables and fruit and recipes to make them. Room was super comfortable and clean and modern.

We had a big bedroom with roll down shutters for a good night's sleep on an immense and comfortable bed. We had the new(?) and excellent sauna all to ourselves which was a real treat and as we were out of season we got a really good price.

We walked the route - Rotweinwanderweg -it was spectacular...

We walked the route - Rotweinwanderweg -it was spectacular and we had lovely lunch at Marienthal. Make sure where to catch the bus back. There is no indications in Dernau and the train does not operate --railway is under construction. Bad Neueahr is easy to walk around.

Adenau is a pleasant little town.

Adenau is a pleasant little town. Plenty of options to eat and drink. And close to the Nurburgring for either driving or spectating. Blau Ecke is good for a few drinks and food. Lidl, Rewe and Aldi for supplies.

Altenahr is a Mecca for for hikers, cyclists, and wine enthusiasts. I am all three, so I found this place truly amazing. The Ahr valley is well served by train and so it is possible to bike or hike in one direction and then take the train back to your starting point. I did this one day by a bike and a second day on foot on the Rotwein-Wanderweg. The Ahr Valley is the red wine capital of Germany and they make some great Pinot Noir (Spat Burgunder) as well as other reds. They also produce some of the typical German whites such as Riesling. Most of the wineries offer tours and tastings, and Altenahr is the home to a regional wine cooperative called "Mayschoss Altenahr Winzergenossenschaft" https://mayschoss.de/gastgeber/winzergenossenschaft-mayschoss/

Blankenheim itself is a very nice old town with castle, the start of the river Ahr, very nice atmosphere. The town is surrounded by a very nice nature with many hills, woods, hiking and cycling paths. Next to that you are always nearby a motorway that go to the bigger cities.

Sinzig is a village with plenty of little restaurants but Hotel Tappes lies in the neighbouring village and it is a 1.5km walk into Sinzig (and the nearest open restaurant). I think it would make an ideal base for hikers and bikers.

A great place for people who enjoy nature, relaxation, and outdoor activities! If you're planning on staying in an apartment in Wimbach, I would highly recommend traveling by car. Not only is public transportation in the area almost non-existent, but the city center and race track are also very hard to reach on foot. The steep terrain will definitely tire you out quickly. Unfortunately, I had to learn that the hard way.

Cute old town centre that gets plenty of visitors on the weekends but not too crowded. There's a variety of nice restaurants in the area and places to try the local wines. We went here specifically to hike and you can walk straight to a number of scenic hiking routes on either side of the valley, no need to take a bus or drive anywhere, which was a huge plus.
