My family and I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Schwarzwaldhotel Sonne, and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience. Located in the peaceful and tranquil surroundings of Baden Baden, this hotel is the perfect retreat for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. The rooms at the hotel are spacious, well-furnished, and immaculately clean, providing a comfortable and cozy ambiance for guests to relax and unwind. The beds were also very comfortable, allowing us to get a good night's sleep after a long day of exploring the beautiful city of Baden Baden. The highlight of our stay, however, was the breakfast. It was a truly lavish spread, with a wide variety of options that catered to all dietary requirements. The food was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented, making it a delight to the senses. From freshly baked bread to cold cuts, cheese, omelet and a selection of fruits and pastries, the breakfast was the perfect way to start our day. The hotel's host, Oliver, was exceptional in his professionalism and warm hospitality. He went out of his way to ensure that our stay was comfortable and enjoyable, providing us with valuable recommendations for local attractions and restaurants. We were particularly impressed by his attention to detail and willingness to go above and beyond to make our stay memorable. Overall, I would highly recommend the Schwarzwaldhotel Sonne to anyone visiting Baden Baden and its surroundings. The hotel's tranquil ambiance, spacious rooms, delicious breakfast, and exceptional host make it the perfect choice for a relaxing getaway. We can't wait to return!

FAQs about hotels in Black Forest

A Forest Full of Surprises

A mysterious mountain range in south-western Germany, the Black Forest evokes images of wild, dark forests and quiet paths with hidden castles and ruins. In fact, this is a very vibrant region with popular wine routes, roaring waterfalls and charming little towns, always full of things to see and do.

However, the biggest kick comes from the Black Forest’s nature and landscape -of its densely forested mountain peaks, Feldberg is the highest at 1,493 metres and the birthplace of the Danube River. Follow its hiking footpaths to see the Titisee and Schluchsee lakes, the most famous German waterfalls of the Triberg and the popular River Wutach gorge.

The region is famous for its crafts, particularly the precision clock making and wood crafting, both coming together in the art of cuckoo clocks, symbolic of the entire Black Forest. There are not as famous as a certain delicacy though: the renowned Black Forest cake, a delicious combination of chocolate, sour cherries, Kirch brandy and cream. An absolute must-try!

From Freiburg to Baden-Baden, from Freudenstadt to Gengenbach, and from 5 star hotels to charming guest houses built in the local style, Booking.com has plenty accommodation on offer for your Black Forest trip.

Amazing experience. The Suite rooms in the annex/dependence deliver great comfort besides being isolated from the main building (2mns walking max). The place is quiet and offers a nice view over the golf area. And you get extra preparation in the room if you have a dog (dogs are not allowed in the main building). The SPA is speechless. 4 different atmospheres, the infinity outdoor pool and the indoor pool (water could have been a bit warmer inside and in the jacuzzi) are big. I did not try the Gym but I had a look and it was well above standards. The breakfast is a mix of continental breakfast with local specialties. We went to the Övenhütte for the dinner. The place is nice and many local dishes are on the menu. Better to book a table in advance, especially for early dinner. This restaurant is also a 15/20mns walking distance from the hotel.

What can I say!

What can I say! I was born here :) It's always great to be back. At the foot of the Black Forest, close the Rhein river and French border, one of the oldest Gothic cathedrals in Europe, the Freiburger Münster, a picturesque marketplace right in front bustling with life and the splendour of regional fresh produce on Saturdays (and my favorite bratwurst on a nippy Sat, 'die Lange Rote' :) Martinstor, Schwabentor, Colombi Schloessle, Schlossberg, Lorettoberg, University of Freiburg, the new Konzerthaus, Stadttheater, the Dreisam River. I remember hopping along the little canals (Bächle) as a kid when visiting my grandparents. Some cool new salsa festivals that draws people from all over Europe and internationally twice a year. You can feel the literally feel and see the cultural closeness to Switzerland and France. And the people! Freiburg people are the friendliest people in G I know! I might be biased but in my mind Freiburg is probably one of the most beautiful places in Germany you can visit any season :)

I loved the old town centre and the atmosphere.

I loved the old town centre and the atmosphere. As it was Christmas time with the Christmas market and decorations, the atmosphere was very special. It felt more festive and less commercial than in other cities. The museums are very good. Although we didn't have time to visit all of them, the two we visited were amazing. One is the Frida Kahlo Kunstmuseum Gehrke-Remund Baden-Baden, with an extraordinary account of Frida Kahlo's life and work. The other one of the Museum Frieder Burda. Designed by the architect Richard Meier, the building showcases the beautiful and meaningful architecture so characteristic ofthis architect. In addition, the exhibition being held there at the moment, called Impressionismus in Deutschland, was really worthwhile. Beyond that, there are still many other attractions like the bath houses, the good restaurants and bars, etc etc.

Well before I just heard about Pforzheim being a jewellery...

Well before I just heard about Pforzheim being a jewellery and gold town. I did not know about its almost complete destruction in WW2 and how poorly it was rebuilt and how dreadful it still looks. I thought I have seen the worst German towns already... A fun fact, it was rebuilt to be very accessible for cars yet the modern politicians have decided to make it a 30 km/H zone. So you have big transit streets and have to drive slower than a bike. Although everything there looks also dreadfully poor (although they are not really poor unlike other places in other parts of Germany) we even saw some high society sipping some drinks near the Enz river. It is a weird place. It was worth coming here to appreciate more other places.

We used this location to spend time in Basel. Main train station had a tram that went to Basel every 15 minutes. Make sure you travel with your passport if you are going to go to Switzerland or France as passports are being checked itermittendly at the borders. Our property was approx. a 20 min walk to the trainstation. Flat city, many shops and restaurants along the way. If you go at Christmas time, the Christmas market was at the front of the hotel.

Titisee-Neustadt is a charming town with a lot to offer.

Titisee-Neustadt is a charming town with a lot to offer. The lake is beautiful and perfect for a relaxing stroll, and the town center is full of character, with lovely little shops, cozy restaurants, and plenty of ice cream stands. It’s a great place for a peaceful getaway and to enjoy the Black Forest atmosphere. However, one unpleasant experience during our visit was dinner at Musse am See – Bio Asia Dining. We were a group of 3 adults and 4 children, and we ordered at 8:20 PM. The service was extremely slow and disorganized: The first dish (for one child) arrived at 8:50 PM. Two more dishes (for adults) came at 9:05 PM. The remaining four meals (for one adult and three children) didn’t arrive until 9:20 PM. A simple Sprite took over 15 minutes, and only arrived after my friend went to the counter to ask about it. The staff seemed unaware until she pointed it out. To make matters worse, the waiter spilled the Sprite onto one of the children’s meals, which completely ruined it—and the child didn’t eat after that. I love Asian food, but this was by far the most disappointing experience I’ve had at an Asian restaurant. It was a real letdown in an otherwise lovely town.

Chose Offenburg because of its location to other points of interest, not for the city itself. The city seems to have adequate shopping and other services, but as I said it was a good pplace to stay whengoing to Strassbourg etc.

VS-Villingen is a Medieval walled city within easy driving (or train) distance of many of the attractions in the Black Forest area of Germany. It is one hour and 15 minutes from either Zurich or Stuttgart International airports. It has an incredible Fastnacht celebration in February. Like Mardi Gras in the USA, it is celebrated during the last days before the start of Lent (Ash Wednesday). The parades are amazing with ancient wooden face masks and elaborate costumes representing the various regions.

Would like to have seen more taxis for exposure/availability. Ettlingen needs more bus stops where you can get on or get off of the bus. Restuarants could have more sugar free drinks available. Encourage staff at attractions & entertainment to learn English. Offer 3 wheeled bikes to rent.
