Loved Dresden -- can't wait to go again !
We had a fabulous time in Dresden. Only complaint is that we should have stayed longer. Really enjoyed attending worship at the frauenkirche and having dinner at Dresden 1900. We attended a ballet at the opera house which was a highlight for us. Enjoyed the green vault but it only took about an hour to go through. Next time we go we hope to make it to the old masters gallery as well as the Swiss saxony.

Saxony's gem of Medieval, Renaissance, Modern and post-modern culture of music, art, architecture and history. Unique icon of Western Civilization in that it is also one of the hippest cities in the world and one of the leading capitals of counter-culture, as well. Auerbach's Keller was a good place for Goethe to eat and draw inspiration for his writing, and still is there for you and me for the same reasons. Bach and his music still live in St. Thomas Church. The variety of museums is unparalleled in the world. Streetcar (tram) shuttles literally cover every block and neighborhood. Taxis are at your beck and call by phone dispatch.

Capital City of Saxony.
Capital City of Saxony. A popular destination, but still a great place to get the feel of a German City without getting completely overrun with tourists. Tram system makes getting around easy. Schiller Garten near Blaues Brucke is great for evening meal. Accessible outside the city by rail and about an hour free Dresden is the Sächsische Schweiz. A great hiking area. We were at Rathen. Views are magnificent. Worth the time. Plan most of a day. Moderately strenuous, makes it not for everyone.

Clean, historic, cultural: Dresden was a real surprise. This city, once destroyed in the Second World War, has rebuilt beautifully and has recovered nicely from being hidden behind the iron curtain for decades. I really recommend discovering Saxony's time as a separate country, and a look at the palace and trappings of its kings. Whatever you do, don't miss looking into the stories of its stunning churches, especially when you consider the amazing, cathedral-like Lutheran church that the communist government left in rubble. The city couldn't rebuild it until the beginning of the 1990s after the fall of communism. Dresden is clearly a city on the rise, and is pleasantly active without the overdone tourist traps that could easily overwhelm its charm. GO see it before too much cheesy tourism inevitably takes over. And finding the Kunsthofpassage was a huge treat. Look for it, have dinner, and experience something very cool.

One of the main and the most beautiful town of Saxony, Dresden is very close from this place (about 30 minutes by train or car). Other places which are worth to visit like Konigstein fortress or a stone bridge in Bastei are also not far from this place. I'd like to recomend stay in Piran in Ferienwohnung Elbtraum to others also because of owner who is very helpful.

Near the place is "netto" (about 4 km and Lidl less than 10 ) it's good spot to travel to Prague and Dresden. And of course Saxony national park and Konigstain fortress

Friendly greeting from the staff upon arrival, very helpful in advising of the resources/faciliites available. Room was a good size, ensuite bathroom and a small balcony with a view of the lake. Advised by the staff that a party was being held in the restaurant that evening, and offered an upgrade to a small house due to expected noise levels. The small house was lovely, a short walk away from the main hotel. The house contained a small kitchen and suana, with a private patio and beach area at the rear. We visited in off season for this resort, as we were passing through Germany. The resolt offers plenty of activities and a relaxing places. All staff were friendly and polite. Restuarant food, drinks, and service was exceptional.
