The hotel staff was extremely on-point. They greeted me by name upon entrance to the hotel, had paperwork printed out for me specifically. That made the checking extremely easy. The receptionist had great suggestions for late-night take-out options, and even offered us silverware once we came back with our food. That's what caring about your guests actually looks like. The breakfast was very well stocked, diverse, and of high quality. Absolutely worth the money. The room had the crib, as we asked. And a huge, sturdy ventilator, to help with the summer heat. That was a very nice addition.

My wife and I go to Dresden regularly at Christmas.

My wife and I go to Dresden regularly at Christmas. Their markets are the best. Colmar comes close, but Nuremberg or Regensburg, which are nice, fall way behind (Berlin has crappy markets). The best thing is the food. More than half of the stands are food and some have food you can only get there (like Handbrot, which, in classic German naming tradition, means hand bread because it's bread and you hold it in your hand :-) The worst is also first rate, especially on freshly toasted buns with creamy mustard. Mnum. Once in a while, you also run into interesting stuff to buy. Once there was a stand with really nice Damascus kitchen knives, but this year it was not there. But that's a good thing. If it were the same every year, it would get boring.

Leipzig is an unexpectedly lovely city, it’s full of beautiful architecture. However the graffiti spoils it. There are lots of parks which to a certain extent make up for the lack of trees in the roads. Town centre and shopping was surprisingly nice, with a fantastic book shop and beautiful shopping arcades. .

A post-industrial city with many nice spots mixed with some that are not too attractive. I would say it's the best what former DDR (East Germany) had to offer: very open, modernist city centre with a lot of green areas and good public transport with the worst: boring and ugly Plattenbau. Many refurbished XIX-century industrial buildings and interesting museums are a huge plus too (honorary first place goes to Museum Gunzenhauser). Overall I liked it and maybe will return to the area some day.

An absolutely stunning medieval town.

An absolutely stunning medieval town. We were the only English-speaking tourists in the town - few people have discovered this little gem. A charming, incredibly well-preserved town. One of the very few that avoided any damage during the war. Full of cobblestone streets - it's incredible at night. The entire town is lit by traditional street lamps and is very atmospheric. We stayed for 3 nights (which was just about right). Top tip - use Chat-GPT and upload photos and ask it to describe what you see and the history of the town. Terrific source of background and history.

Book this very cosy hotel set in an idyllic hilly backdrop, polite staff, lovely breakfast. Spa area has a pool and whirlpool jacuzzi that has several jet options, there is a small playground and sauna, steambath as well. The family suite was the most spacious and comfortable one we have ever been in. The only downside is that there wasn’t a joint bed in the “parents” room but overall a pleasant stay with kids.

-a place of nihilism and moral depravity, as any other area in Germany where I had been before. We only made a stop there because my wife didn't want to travel non-stop in one go from Poland to Luxembourg. One of my first impressions of Zwickau was the sight of an adult German who urinated against the beautiful 16th century dome, this on Christmas Eve.

Beautiful historical town, very little spoiled by the former regime. Lovely walks through the colourful streets. Next time will reserve more time for museums, especially the Sorbian Museum. Everything is within a walking distance. Excellent Sorbian restaurant Wjelbik, make sure to book in advance, otherwise there is very little chance of getting any place. Be aware that LGBTQ+ people and other minorities might not necessarily feel comfortable, you notice a strong presence of far-right appearing young males (definitely was true during Christmas market).

Great old silver mining city with highly reputable university and has the largest mineral collections in Middle Europe. All building are nicely renovated in comparison to the East Germany Era. Many shops and restaurants are available for reasonable prices. The Christmas markt just started with a lot of Erzgebirgishe Delicacies, woodwork and craftwork. It is easy to go around walking, by bus. The train station is 15 minutes away. The bells of the adjacent church sounds every half hour as in the old medieval times. People everywhere are friendly and helpful and mostly speak English. Many cultural events are announced specially at Christmas time. Must visit the mineral Collection and the Shloss. Well known with their Stollen at Christmas time. Cafe Hartmann is a must with its traditional Marzipan delicacies. I would recommend visiting this great city anytime of the year.
