Located 100 km south-east of Berlin, the unique and UNESCO-designated biosphere reserve, captivating Spreewald is characterised for its plant life on wetlands and for its pine forests on drier areas. It has over 18,000 species of flora and fauna. The area also contains 200 small water channels, vast grasslands and natural hot springs.

The largest city of the area is Lübbenau, with its majestic centrepiece Lübbenau Castle. The city dates back to the Middle Ages, signs of this can be seen on the city walls and museum.
