This was the second time we have stayed here on our way from Paris to Lisbon by car, and once again it proved to be an excellent small hotel. Conveniently located to shops, the beach, and the old town, close to parking (though we opted for the convenient valet parking). What really impresses you though is when you enter the hotel. A cosy fire burning chimney in the lobby with comfortable sofas and relaxed check in with very friendly and professional staff over a beautiful designer table. The hotel is beautifully designed, with good taste, with details that have been thought out. Its not cluttered and feels warm. Room is another design beauty. Again, not cluttered but very comfortable. Quiet area at night. The condition of the hotel is impeccable. I only wish we had more of these hotels around Spain to visit. The other reviews seem to match mine. We did not use the restaurant/bar which is frequented by classy locals with its own street entrance, but heard that it was good. Highly recommended.

FAQs about hotels in Basque Country

A Vibrant Land of Gourmet Cuisine, Sandy Beaches and Fascinating Culture

Spanning the French-Spanish border, the beautiful coastal Basque Country lays a lot at your feet: renowned gourmet cuisine, stunning mountainous landscapes and wide, sandy beaches. And not forgetting its stormy history and vibrant cities - they’re a real cherry on top!

Its capital, Vitoria-Gasteiz, the 2nd largest in the region and one of the greenest European cities, features a charming town centre with Gothic churches and Renaissance town houses. More contemporary examples of architecture can be found in the region’s biggest city, Bilbao, home to the world-famous symbol and architectural gem of the Guggenheim Museum.

The Basque Country is not all about architecture though. Try the other tourist destinations of Pamplona - with the famous running of the bulls during the San Fermin festival - or San Sebastian, the popular beach resort with a picturesque coastline and great beaches.

Wherever you go, keep in mind (and later in your mouth!) the delicious pintxos, the Basque equivalent of Spanish tapas and wash them down with some local beverages - the unique Sagardoa cider, Txakoli wine or Patxaran, a pink-coloured sloe liquor.

Booking.com offers a wide choice of luxury and boutique hotels, friendly guest houses and comfortable country houses for your Basque Country visit.

We had a wonderful stay at the hotel! We were a group of six and booked three rooms. The location was excellent—central and convenient for everything we wanted to do. The staff overall was friendly and welcoming, but what truly made our experience exceptional was Laura at the front desk. From the moment we arrived, she went the extra mile—something that’s rare to find in hotels these days. When we had a small issue with one of the rooms, we offered to pay for an upgrade, but instead, she kindly upgraded us at no additional cost. It was such a thoughtful gesture and made us feel genuinely cared for. Throughout our stay, Laura continued to be incredibly helpful. She gave us fantastic daily recommendations for restaurants and places to visit, and was always available to assist us with anything we needed, no matter how small. Her warmth, professionalism, and attention to detail truly stood out. Thanks to her and the overall great service, we had an amazing experience. We’d gladly stay here again and highly recommend it! We made a point of staying at casas rurales during our Basque country travels and Jesuskoa was one of our favorites! Not only were the buildings and rooms exceptional in regard to style, comfort, and details, but also the grounds were spectacular. We had traveled via bicycle from Bilbao on our way to San Sebastian and the proprietor made sure we had a safe place to store the bikes (as well as charge e-bikes). Our stay happened to coincide on one of the evenings when the Casa didn't provide a dinner service but the proprietor helped us with a reservation at a nearby restaurant and even offered us the use of a property vehicle to drive to the restaurant and back so we wouldn't have to bike on the dark country roads at night. The next morning the breakfast was phenomenal and certainly provided us with the energy to cycle to our next destination! Despite our short stay, we will fondly remember our experience at Jesuskoa and would love to return for a longer visit if we find ourselves again in the Basque country!

We were surprised at the location and the lay out of the room though it had no view and was in the second floor. The main entrance is a bit off a main street which was near residential and shopping area. All my favorite sites where reachable via foot. The Guggenheim Museum was a 15 minute walk, the old town was 20 minutes walk but you go through the Grand Via. A nice leisurely walk to the old town was simply unexpected. What I did love was the room lay out. There was an ante sitting room before the bedroom. Very cozy and well lit despite the low floor and no view. I did not mind. Bathroom was also well planned with nice wooden flooring in the shower area. There is a rooftop bar which I also liked but it was almost too cold to sit outside.

it was so beautiful there, the scenery was something off a postcard,we stayed on the campsite in our motorhome, the site was lovely very peaceful, but not for large campers, we are 7mts.. it was very tight, great for smaller camper's We were there to meet up with our son, who came to scatter his wife's ashes. The town was accessable by walking, I am disabled and was able to take my scooter. Very close to Gernika, a very interesting place, with a buzzing night life, lots of bars and restaurants, don't go to the Chinese!

The state-owned Paradores chain is one of the jewels of Spanish hospitality. These places are oases of calm class, and Argomaniz was no exception. The setting is just lovely, looking out over the agriculture of the plain below. Everything about this place is just "right" - peaceful rooms, great water pressure in the shower, lovely staff and delicious dinner and breakfast, all in a delightful historic palace. Not showy or super-deluxe, just "right"! Basically unfaultable.

The location was great, a short 10min walk to the old town of La Guardia. We didn't use much of the facilities (pools or spa) as we were only there for a short night. Breakfast was good value, instead of trying to walk back up and find a place to eat in town.

As a solo traveller I felt safe day/night never thought @ anytime I'd got into a bad situation or places. People where so nice.I had a mini break away from Bilbao & when I returned it was like 'going home' when I returned. I'd recommend the Bilboats (2hr river trip €20) sightseeing bus (€15.Its possible to do the 2 in one day. The sushi artist (adjacent to Guggenheim museum) do FANTASTIC Thai style noodles.

The old historic town was the purpose of the stop over which didn't disappoint. Food and atmosphere was amazing, the Sport Bar was the highlight and main reason with its amazing pintxos. it was a revisit after 13 years with the boys being a bit older but still remember their first visit. We did sample some other eateries and the food was equally as good. just wish we had more time. On a downer, wish we had prior warning of the LEZ tourist permission required prior to check-in at our hotel in the old quarter.

Zarautz is an impossibly quaint, clean, and beautiful town with one of the best surfing beaches in Spain, and possibly Europe. It is a town that is so picturesque it could be in its own movie. The shops are beautiful and tasteful. The restaurants serve some of the best food I've ever tasted. And the beach is huge and absolutely stunning. Everywhere you turn you are rewarded by a beautiful view.

The beaches and harbour were lovely.

The beaches and harbour were lovely. It is well worth taking the gondola across the water to the local cafes and old town area. The promenade is long and makes wonderful walking by the sea. There are all kinds of games and water sports available. Getxo is a Spanish resort. Bars in town offer snacks (pintxo) with beer/wine etc. Restaurants are on the promenade reached by lift. Very little English is spoken except in the restaurants on the promenade.

Laguardia is in the centre of the Rioja wine growing region.

Laguardia is in the centre of the Rioja wine growing region. Its a mediaeval village surrounded bu a wall, no traffic in the narrow streets, Only 5 minute walk north to south and 3 minutes across within the walls. At least 5 bodegas within the walls so a wine tour ( or several) are recommended. For outdoor adventure the spectacular mountain range to the north for hiking and MTB is just minutes away.
