We were only in Salamanca for 1 night so we didn't take full advantage of the hotel's facilities, but our 1 night was wonderful. We were greeted with welcome cookies, complimentary water and coffee in the room, the bed was very comfortable and the shower was spa like. The location was perfect for walking to all the sights and we slept like babies when we got back to our room. We would definitely stay again and recommend.

Unbelievably beautiful city, with magnificent architecture literally everywhere you look. Classy, yet reasonably priced restaurants everywhere. It's a city straight out of a Hans Christian Anderson fairytale. Romantic, historic and awe inspiring scenery. It is now one of my favourite places on Earth.

Bejar was ok as a jumping off point. If we were to come back to the area we would probably stay in Candolario,. a small town that is more picturesque and only 13 minutes away. The visit to the Plaza del Toro was definitely worth the time as was walking the wall of Bejar.

Fabulous old town - an intimate and more manageable version of Caceres. The walk around the ramparts is well worth the effort - with view to die for. La Paloma Restaurant was busy and excellent value for money and the bars that we visited were friendly and bustling. Even our dog was welcome!

We were travelling from the Algarve to Santander to catch the ferry to UK. This was a perfect place to stopover as it was about 2/3rds of the journey. We set off mid morning, arriving around 1900, in time to relax with a drink on the lovely terrace before dinner in the dungeons (excellent meal - best to book your table online with the castle directly). After a leisurely breakfast, it was an easy 3.5 hour drive to Santander to catch the afternoon ferry.

Salamanca is one of my favourite Spanish cities.

Salamanca is one of my favourite Spanish cities. I visit often and have friends here. It's beautiful and historic with a gorgeous Plaza Mayor and generally enough to keep you busy a few days, or a week with some side trips (Segovia and Avila are an easy train ride and you can drive to spectacular mountain valleys like the Valle del Ambroz and the Valle del Jerte). It's a university city and is young, vibrant and very safe, with an absolute ton of bars and eateries. It has a well established tourism infrastructure without being particularly touristy (it's mostly language schools, since they speak a very pure Spanish). It's also an easy 1.5hr train trip from Madrid.

We went to the Blues festival held every July in the old bull ring up in the chestnut woods above Bejar so were just wanting a room to sleep. Bejar itself, interesting old town once centre of a thriving wool and cloth trade but feeling in decline now with closed shops. But still attractive old quarter along the Main Street linking several plazas. The main square st the bottom has the theatre, and cámara oscura which is worth a visit. As well as the route of the mill industry, sculpture museum, Jewish quarter. The surrounding country side is very pretty for walking, cycling. Visit particularly Candelario traditional centre of artisan sausages etc with streams channels down the streets and large traditional alpine houses, and Baños de Mibtenayor, spa town.
