Robin and Auralie, the owners, are very welcoming and helpful. They speak English well and make everyone feel at home. The room seemed as if it was newly renovated with fresh, white paint and new bed linens. It was equipped with a modern heating and air conditioning system so it was warm and toasty when I checked in. Amenities include a small size drinks fridge, a safe for valuables, and a small closet to hang a few clothes.

Location was quiet yet convenient to restaurants and the beach. The terrace and library were lovely, quiet places to relax, read, play cards. Breakfast was a generous traditional continental offering, lots of breads, jam & a different fruit every day. The property provides beach umbrellas and mats. We liked it so much we extended our stay. I would happily return.

FAQs about hotels in Camargue

Wetlands, Birds and White Horses

The largest river delta in Europe, Camargue is a land of salt marshes, farmlands and pastures in the French region of Provence. This tranquil oasis is well-known for its white horses, rich bird life and ‘les gardiens’, the local cowboys.

The region spreads along the west bank of the Rhone River, south of Arles. Camargue’s biggest city is known for its abundance of Roman remains, and as a place where Vincent van Gogh lived between 1888 and 1889 and produced over 300 of his precious art pieces.

To the south-west, you can find the regions’ capital, Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, a charming port town, the population of which grows 20 times during the summer months. It is also an important pilgrimage destination for those who want to see the relics of the Three Marys.

The vast area of Camargue is best explored on horseback or using bicycles; both options give you a great opportunity to fully admire the scenery. There is the famous Camargue black, long-horn cows and its vast array of birds with over 400 species, including the pink flamingos!

Offering perfect opportunities and a setting for outdoor activities, Camargue is truly a major tourist destination. Visit Booking.com for best offers of luxury and boutique hotels, holiday homes and cosy apartments.

The property offers a great location - it is in 3 minutes walk from the sea and 15 minutes away from the city center. It's territory is spacious, green and comfortable. It also allows a variety of activities from table tennis and swimming till playing or just chilling on the grass. The staff is friendly and very helpful. If you need information or have any issue those will be attended in no time. An apartment for 3 people could be quite small for 3 adults. It is ideal for a couple or an adult with a kid. The swimming pool was exceptionally clean all the time during it's opening hours. On the other side of the road (just in 7-10 minute walk) you can find a bus stop (Ponent) and a pond where you can fish, crab hunt or do some stand up paddle or any kind rowing/canoeing/kayaking.

It’s a lovely area.

It’s a lovely area. The town is pretty and has something for everyone: plenty of shopping including a market, loads of restaurants, lots of different beaches, a marina, an arena for shows including Camargue horses and bulls, plenty of places offering horse rides and tons of ice cream parlours! We love Cabanes de Cacherel for horseriding. We love to see the rodeo at the arena. Our favourite beach is to the far west of the town on the route de l’Aramee. We tried out tubing on the back of a speedboat at Aquaglisse which was fun. A tour of a manade gives you great insight into the economy of the area and is wonderful - we recommend Manade de Layalle : Mathieu is a brilliant character. We also ventured to the Camarkas Equestrian Theatre which is a great night out. Both these last two are a 10-15 minute ride out of town. Further afield Aigues Mortes is well worth a visit for its amazing medieval splendour, as is a trip around the surreal landscapes of the salt pans. This is our third year to visit Camargue - there is so much to do and see. What I have detailed above is just the last 4 days we spent there. By the way we have three tween/teenagers to entertain and they keep begging to go back to Saintes Maries de la Mer.

A quiet, picturesque little fishing town with proximity to beaches and wetlands. There is a lot to do for a tourist, many good Seafood restaurants and several beautiful beaches. I went horse riding with the company "Lecurie des Dunes" on Promenade a cheval. It was a magical excursion. All the horses were well cared for, the guide Joe was the best. Had a wonderful couple of hours.

I love Port Saint Louis. Although next to some large industry, the town escapes from all that. I love going to the supermarkets, and wandering around. Good eating and it feels very relaxed. I'd move there! I may be in the minority, but swimming at the very clean Plage Olga with the industry in view is a real bonus. I love it!

We visited for the wildlife and countryside, and wanted to be near a town for shopping and eating. Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer is very much a tourist beach destination and not a quiet French town. However, if beach resort if what you want, there were loads of restaurants and the beaches seemed immaculate with sand from the promenade to the water. As a base for exploring the countryside, it fulfilled the job well and it's easy to explore by bike. However, many paths are only suitable for mountain bikes (deep sand, water crossings) and you can find just a few paths for hybrids. Expect mosquitos and research your season well to avoid disappointment.

Le grau du roi is a beautiful compact fishing port. It is located along a bar and cafe canal like estuary. We liked the very harmonious mix of ancient history and modern attractions. The map provided by the tourist office with 40 interesting points of interest marked for you to wander in your own time very useful. We had drinks in many places but ate in La Vigourie and IX Louis only. Both delicious and great value. Even though one of us has a few mobility problems walking around in short bursts worked fine; the town is small enough. Sunday market was excellent for end of season summer dresses, roast chickens and figs! Walking the ramparts (in flat shoes) is probably a must, educational animations along the way are well done with sub-titles. A week is a good stay length, take a short train ride to the sea-side ports, architectural surprises like La Grande Motte and out into the Camargue flats.
