United KingdomWe selected the location / hotel off Google maps, as it was about half way from our home in Kent and Alsace in western France, we actually stayed there both going and on our return, but were surprised how lucky we were with our choice to the point where we are thinking of visiting Verdun and would defiantly stay at the hotel if we do.
The hotel is right on the banks of the river Meuse the town centre is only a very short walk from the hotel.
We were also looking as we stayed just before Christmas so the town had some really beautiful Christmas lights and street market.

The rooms were on the small side but expected... you're on a boat. The location was really close to restaurants and bars. I loved that we could have drinks outside on the boat as well.

United KingdomRegis and his daughter were super helpful. A large group of us arrived on motorcycles on a very hot day and they made sure our rooms were on the shady side of the motel. They provide a garage for the bikes and opened the restaurant especially for us on a night when it would normally be closed (we had booked in advance). The set menu was delicious, and they catered for a gluten free diet for one of our party.

NetherlandsHistoric hotel, at least 18th century, partly destroyed in World War I, rebuilt in the 1920s. Very clean, very atmospheric, good breakfast with fresh croissants and pains au chocolate. You can also have a good dinner there. A nice young couple who runs the hotel is most friendly and helpful. Most quiet town with a historic past: King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette were stopped there on June 21, 1791 on their flight from Paris during the French Revolution. Le Grand Monarque plays a role in this story!

Absolutely fantastic. Very welcoming and staff couldnt be more helpful. Breakfast and evening meal for 2 nights just brilliant with superb service and outstanding value and quality for money. Enjoyed and appreciated the support to speak
some french even if it was rusty. Location wonderfully relaxing France with so much to see in local areas. Poignantly respectful world war 1 places to visit including verdun - but very happy to be based in St Mihiel with more local charm.

We spent two days in Verdun, and I could have stayed a few...
We spent two days in Verdun, and I could have stayed a few more days. Visiting the battlefield is simply humbling. At a minimum, visit the Verdun Memorial, the Douaumont Ossuary, and Fort Douaumont. Then drive around the battlefield and note how churned up the terrain is; it gives you a new perspective on industrial warfare. Before trying to understand what you're seeing, take time to read books on the 1916 Battle of Verdun; it will enhance your visit.

Liked everything , the host was very helpful , warm and friendly . Bedroom was extremely spacious with tissues hairdryer , liquid soap etc . Also. a little kitchen with a fridge downstairs which we could use. Swimming pool was lovely . we had a fantastic time thoroughly recommend it .

Chantal was a wonderful host, the cabin where we stayed, and garden were beautiful, very rustic.
If you want a different experience from a hotel in a peaceful environment this is a lovely place.
It's not for hotel addicts, more for the outdoors type, perfect for us!

I liked the ability to walk a relatively short distances in Verdun, to a wide variety of Cafes and restaurants, and monuments. I liked the variety of restaurants near or along the water front. Also, by car, it is a short drive to major Verdun museums and battle grounds and American cemeteries in the area. So munch to see and comprehend.i would have loved staying longer, but only had a two weeks to see other destinations as well. Also, It will be best rent a car at the Charles De Gaulle airport.

This is a charming small town in a region which begs...
This is a charming small town in a region which begs exploration. The inventor or the bicycle came from here; markets and quality shops abound alongside the river and canal shoulder to shoulder with some really impressive historical buildings and beautifully preserved traditional houses. Bustling, yet relaxing at the same time.
Good food is available in a whole range of restaurants and less formal eateries and, of course the Champagne region is right 'next door'.

We can't comment on Verdun as we only stayed one night at the beginning of our holiday. From afar it looked interesting but the area where the hotel is situated doesn't look prosperous and quite frankly safe. I am sure there other parts which we didn't have time and were too tired to explore.

Another note for our stay at Ibis, Bar le Duc. We were so appreciative that each time a guest walked into the breakfast room the concierge supplied freshly warmed croissants. It was a very nice touch.
