"Friendly owner was most helpful by driving us 6 kilometres to our walking trail on the GR65. We were upgraded to a delightful room with two windows. King size bed and all facilities most modern. Great breakfast (including Roccomadour Cheese) and an assortment of other. Recommended a 10/10 restaurant. Best Hotel so far on our walking trail in France. Believe the property was newly opened in December 2016. Would stay there again."

Description This hotel in the medieval town of Martel features 7000m² of private gardens, an outdoor pool and a restaurant with terrace or fireside dining.
    Review

"The Saint Anne was an exceptional hotel that far exceeded our expectations. We wished we stayed there longer. We stayed in the Junior Suite. The Booking.com photos do not do it justice, the rooms were far larger. There was a lounge area, bedroom area, separate toilet and bathroom. Two balconies with full length opening doors allowed in air during the July heatwave, we were very comfortable. AirCon was there if not. The territory of the hotel is superb, you are in a gated area with open and covered garden terraces for having tea/coffee in the morning/afternoon, a chapel, swimming pool and walkable gardens. The staff are all very friendly from the duty staff to maids, French-English spoken as well as native English. You can ask for something when you need it, they are unobtrusive and let you enjoy and relax in the territory when you don't. Everything great value for money. The hotel is at the bottom of the street from main Martel centre and has own parking area. Martel itself is a great central base for exploring the area, but don't miss its local market day. The chef at the Saint Anne is well known, a superb dinner of fresh and quality ingredients is served on an open terrace. Make sure you take the dinner reservation when the owner offers it to you, else you are likely to be disappointed with it being fully booked. We look forward to returning here."

    Château de Mercuès, Mercuès
    9.1 Superb 215 reviews
Description This 13th-century castle was the former residence of the bishops of Cahors. It features a chapel and overlooks the Valley of the Lot and the famous vineyard of Cahors.
    Review

"Our room was more akin to an eyrie ... perched high up a cliff, we had a magnificent 180-degree view over the Lot River valley. A large en-suite with even a bidet ... along with a spacious room with a king-size bed that I suspected was larger than king-size ... completed the picture. And I even had an olde-worlde desk by the large window. The restaurant provided one of the most expensive meals we have had in living memory but it was fine food, well-presented and well delivered. Enjoyable. We found the staff very professional and helpful. All of the interior architecture and decoration of the main areas was, well, splendidly 'chateau-ish'. Next time I am back in this region of France, I will splash-out again here."
