We had a wonderful stay and truly enjoyed every moment. The hotel is clearly being continuously renovated, and it shows in all the right places. The beds were exceptionally comfortable, making it easy to relax and get a great night’s sleep. The only feature that still hints at the building’s older character are the room doors, which don’t fully block hallway noise. That said, it was very quiet during our stay. You might notice other doors closing if you’re paying attention, but it didn’t disturb us or affect our sleep at all. The bathroom was spacious, and the room itself was very well equipped with everything you might need—from a coffee machine and kettle to a Dyson hairdryer. A really nice touch. The location is simply beautiful, set within a national park, which makes it perfect for evening walks or just enjoying nature. Alternatively, you can unwind in the hotel’s own pub or restaurant. The food and drinks there were excellent. Breakfast was a great mix of continental buffet and freshly prepared hot options from a menu. Everything was spot on. We would happily return—highly recommended!

A wonderful hotel in a beautiful location. Extremely peaceful setting in the middle of delightful countryside within landscaped gardens. Real tranquility with the calming sound of an exquisite river to lend even more character to the setting. Extremely friendly and personal service, from the front door being opened for us when we arrived, to the car being brought to the door and the luggage placed in as we left. Not to mention the perfectly sized four year old and teenager bathrobes and slippers waiting in our room for our children on our arrival, along with chocolates, lemonade, port (not for our children;) and other refreshments. The room was also excellent. The modern and historical blended with style and character. Large and comfortable, with views over the gardens and the sound of the river outside. And then the breakfast. So relaxing and sophisticated, in a lovely dining room, with excellent service and the best (and most impressive) croissants and Eggs Royale I have ever tasted. Simply a first class and enjoyable experience. Would have wanted to stay longer. Would definitely recommend.

We enjoyed our visit to the beautiful serene Buckfast Abbey and the Christmas Fair. The location of the Inn alongside the River Dart is spoilt by the close proximity of both the Totnes Road and the Devon Expressway. Its facilities are poor with a hot, dry atmosphere which, alongside the road noise, we found made sleeping uncomfortable.

I really enjoyed visiting the Dartmoor Prison visitors centre. An unexpected treat. I was lucky with the weather, mainly blue skies and fluffy clouds. Fog and rain came and went quickly. It's Dartmoor after all. It's very central for visiting the moors and the seaside. I liked it. There's a visitors centre there for advice re where to go. Local pride is evident.

South Brent village is in a good location if you wish to visit the other local towns such as Totnes, Buckfastleigh, Ashburton, Bovey Tracey, Newton Abbot, as all easily accessible via the A38.
