Rooms were beautifully decorated.. ( sky tv complimentary water etc) staff so lovely & helpful There is a courtesy car which can take you to and from the other restaurants ie Milsoms & Talbooth … If you don’t want the continental breakfast which is offered here you can go to Milsoms for a cooked full English which is excellent. ( lots if choice on Milsoms menu) we love the spa here which is amazing

Fantastic stay, the room was huge and beautifully furnished with a lovely big bed! The extra facilities were lovely touches such as the nice coffee machine, extra toiletries, continental breakfast etc. The staff were very friendly and helpful with nothing being too much trouble. We were lucky to be staying on a night where they had live music in the bar which was fantastic, so great to see a pub full of locals and lots of people eating, drinking, dancing and having fun.

We already knew Long Melford quite well before this visit.

We already knew Long Melford quite well before this visit. It is a delightful large village/small town with nice shops and several excellent pubs (even if most are Greene King ones, so there is little variety of ales etc.!). The church is magnificent and worth a journey of itself. Then there are Melford Hall and Kentwell Hall! Both very special, moated Tudor/Jacobean country houses. Given it's proximity to such fabulous places as Cavendish, Clare, Bury St. Edmunds, Lavenham and a number of other delightful Suffolk and East Anglian towns and villages, Long Melford is a delightful place to stay.

Sudbury has an excellent gallery and museum in the Gainsborough House. It is a pleasant town to walk around, with a great little sculpture trail, the Talbot Trail. The Meadows on the edge of town provide an easy place to take a gentle walk. We enjoyed learning about the Sudbury silk trade, which is still in existence!

John Constable Exhibition just up the road at Flatford (few mins walk) very interesting and moving. The Clarke's Victorian house, how they lived in these times also fascinating. River Stour boat trip pleasant and pilots knowledgeable. Place for Plants gardens and RSPB section nice to visit (see the various carvings out of trees). The National Trust shops all seem to have the same generic stock whichever part of the country you are in..and are very expensive, they need to sell LOCAL things. Lion Brasserie good food and friendly service. Need a car to get around.

Idyllic, quiet village location on the village green.

Idyllic, quiet village location on the village green. Thr Five bells is a quaint, oldy worldy country pub that oozes charm and character. The staff are friendly and treat you like family. The accommodation was an amazing surprise. Clean, modern and just the right size for myself and my wife. Perfect en suite toilet/shower room. Coffee/teamaking facilities in the room as well as available at the bar. We wish we could have stayed longer but we came up country from Bournemouth for a family wedding. Will definitely be booking another stay here, hopefully soon.

Lovely little village with a great local serving great value for money meals. Good base for seeing all the local villages, all of which are so pretty, not just Lavenhem. Also recommend the farm shop just outside of Glemsford, had a Sunday lunch there which was first class. Long Medford is well worth a visit.

We used Clare as a base to visit places in Suffolk/Essex/Cambridgeshire. Our favourite places in Clare itself were Clare Castle, the old railway line/station buildings and Clare Priory. It's very easy to get around Clare, it's only a small place so pretty much everything is in walking distance.

We've stayed in Long Melford on a number of occasions but being here on a crisp winter's evening with the Christmas lights and decorations was even more of a bonus. The church is flood-lit at night and looks magical. It is a historic town and a great base for visiting nearby Lavenham and Gainsborough's House (and gallery) in Sudbury. As well as The Bull, where we stayed, drank and ate, there are plenty of other places to eat and drink in Long Melford and it is extremely picturesque.
