"Do not expect a 5-star hotel despite the 5-star prices. Newly refurbished premier rooms have lovely, friendly, soft beds.
Using deep, fluffy carpets in very long hallways is a mistake as it can be challenging to pull suitcases over them.
I only use this hotel because it is right next to the terminal, and my flights to Denmark are often ridiculously early,
You get two bottles of water in the minibar. Why it is not possible to run a minibar service in 2024 I don't know."

"Great city, highly recommend visiting! The Colchester Castle was a sight to see with its rich history. The Colchester park is a massive park with elaborate gardens and full of fun activities (pond, paddle boats, ice cream shop, cricket fields, and multiple playgrounds). Close to London, Yet Far Removed
Half-timbered houses lining village greens. Picturesque estuaries and sweeping countryside. Traditional seaside resorts. Affluent Essex has all of this and more.
Its county town Chelmsford has a flint cathedral and waterfront shopping complex. To the east Maldon is a pretty estuary town with a colourful high street, and further south is Southend-on-Sea, a popular seaside town with a good helping of fish and chip shops and the world’s longest pier.
Another pier with amusements is in Clacton-on-Sea, the closest Essex seaside resort to Colchester, the former capital of Roman Britain. City walls remain from this period, and it has a Norman castle and first-class zoo.
From nearby Harwich ferries depart to the Netherlands and Denmark, while Braintree houses the Freeport Outlet Shopping Village. Further west is Stansted Airport, an important hub for low-cost airlines. Closer to London, modern Harlow has the most Essex spa hotels and is close to the Lee Valley Regional Park and Epping Forest.
Brentwood is a bustling commuter town from where you can see the City of London skyline on a clear day. Close by is Basildon with its Hollywood-esque sign, and forming a triangle with them is Grays, home of the huge Thurrock Lakeside Shopping Centre.

The staff were exceptionally friendly, all three women working reception the evening and morning of our stay were so lovely and helpful and pleasant! Whoever watches over the messaging system was efficient and quick even when messaging outside of business hours with a question. All facilities were clean and easily accessible! Staff made it more than just a night away and I never mentioned it being my birthday but staff must have noticed in my information and even gave me a birthday card! The little things such as kindness and helpfulness and attention to detail was what made it special!

What a lovely property and area. We had a wedding the attend so weren’t there for too long but wish we could have explored more. The lake view is absolutely stunning. Carl was a delight and so so helpful. We absolutely loved it. The room was spotless clean. I want to go back and see more of the area. I’d absolutely stay here again!

Great find. Stayed couple nights and had a great stay. Check in was smooth and easy as the staff were friendly and helpful. Room was really nice and clean and beds were comfortable.
During the week they do a burger or pizza and a pint for £9.95 and it was very good.
Had a brilliant stay and would definitely stay again.

Close to the pub, but in a quiet separate building. Loved the interior deco of the room, tasteful and ‘country elegant.’ Reception crew is friendly and kind, as were the servers in the restaurant. The meal was delicious and the lager as well. I’d come back here in a heartbeat.

Another great stay.
Another great stay. In the evening we ate in the restaurant although very busy service was excellent & food was good. Very comfortable bed slept really well. Good selection at breakfast which was very nice.

Lovely historical town with many historical things to see. Tiptree Jam Museum close by, approx 25 mins away. Trinity shopping area so charming with lovely coffee shops and cute restaurants. There's a midweek car boot sale on Wednesdays near the Delta hotel (Marks Tey) which starts at 6am and runs till 12pm midday.
For those who need it, there is halal Pepe's and subway around 15 mins away from Marks Tey.

Beach is sandy and clean.
Beach is sandy and clean. Enjoyed the amusements, arcades, cafes, bars, restaurants and the town centre (good variety of shops). Had a ride on the land train along the beachfront. Ambled down to Toby Carvery too (download the app for a discount). Everything was within walking distance for us including a retail park with a Morrisons. It was better than we expected

Chelmsford is a really friendly city with lots to do and some beautiful villages next to it. We came for the annual sausage and cider festival which was absolutely brilliant. The Grand Cochin Indian restaurant (opposite the bus station) is fabulous. The food and service wer amazing.

We stayed for an overnight stay and some shopping after a trip to the Cotswolds. The hotel is very good value for money. Only a 15 minute walk train trip from Stansted airport and much cheaper than the hotels closer to the airport.

We stayed in Harwich only to catch the 9 am ferry to Hoek van Holland. Harwich has its old bits and its shady bits. I wouldn't have felt comfortable leaving a fully packed car overnight at some easily accessible parking spot. If you want to visit the beach, go to Doverscourt beach: free parking all day! Lovely beach, and you will find fossils if you search hard enough. Harwich isn't worth a prolonged visit in itself but does have a few nice surprises up its sleeve.

The location is just fine for Stansted Airport.
The location is just fine for Stansted Airport. Only problem that I faced was that the room heating wasn't working at all. I asked the person there the next morning regarding this and he informed that some guest had fiddled with the boiler which is very difficult to understand. Well overall pleasant stay.

Very picturesque and interesting. It's all so relaxing. Paycocks House is a gem especially when there is an event (Tusor or 1920's ) taking place over a weekend. For me its on a par with Lavenham.

Braintree is a very historic town with glimpses of a medieval past in its narrow lanes around the town centre. It has suffered from a decline after its main local industry closed down. It could be a lovely place if there was investment in it because a number of traditional buildings still stand, and it has a good sized centre for an upgrade to take place. There's a nice local park near Coggeshall Road and the station. Sadly, there's an ugly multistorey car park near the run down shopping area with a few cafes and low priced shops. Very sad to see it so neglected. Maybe local councillors could take a look at towns like Ludlow or Chichester to see how they've protected the historic heart of their home towns. Happy to return again though. Good luck Braintree people.
