The room was quiet but for the afternoon/evening hours, since our window was just above an outdoor cafe/bar. We needed the circulation so we had to keep it open. By bedtime it was quiet again. The room was small, but that is usually the case in European accommodations. The beds were pushed together but they had set it with separate linens to accommodate 2 singles sharing the bed. The room had a sitting area between the bed and ensuite facility, furnished with a small divan, chair and coffee table. The furniture was not really needed and made the space seem even smaller. We only stayed one night so I suppose anyone staying longer would have found the sitting area accommodating.
The room was very clean.
The staff was extremely accommodating - twice retrieving 'lost' items, and even holding onto one we did not discover missing until several days after we had left town. We happened to be in Skiddaw later in the week, and on a chance we stopped by to inquire if they had perhaps found and saved it. They still had the item! This is an item that could easily have been tossed into the trash, not knowing it contained a dental retainer. That item would have been quite expensive to replace!
The desk attendant tried to help us locate a taxi for our departing day's journey, but in the end none were available on short notice. Fortunately we discovered a public bus that took us right to the doorstep of our country guesthouse for a fraction of the cost!

Perfect location central to all the beautiful walks. Views out of the window were stunning, little stream with a bridge and Mountain View’s with lovely balcony to sit outside and enjoy watching the world go by. Property was very clean, beds very comfortable, towels in a swan were amazing to come in to on your first night. lovely big drawing room to sit in and relax with a big fire that gets lit every night. Breakfast room is large overlooking the bridge, river and Mountain View. Idyllic setting for a perfect relaxing stay. Couldn’t be any more perfect.

Stunningly set accommodation, beautiful gardens and surroundings which adds so much charm- especially with all the bunnies and wildlife around.
The hotel itself had a lot of character, the room had plenty space, a bath and a roof terrace.
There wasn’t one member of staff that wasn’t warm and friendly with us which again, really helps to feel at home.
The spa being included was really the cherry on top. Indoor and outdoor pool as well as sauna, jacuzzi and steam. It was hard to pack up and leave the next day!

I have been going to Keswick for almost 50 years.
I have been going to Keswick for almost 50 years. Mostly cycling or walking but this weekend was just enjoying the pubs and views of the lakes and mountains without exerting myself. Great dog friendly pubs full of character and an open top bus ride down the lake.

Amazing location and was just 1.5 miles away from car park that takes us to top of Helvellyn mountain. Nice and easy under 10 min drive to Keswick which was very conveinent. Thirlmere Dam and the hike up the hill next to it is a good one to go around as well. The breakfast at Kings Head Inn in Thirlmere was very good..

Fantastic place to stay!
Fantastic place to stay! Last minute choice but very glad we chose this location. Fantastic views, lovely and warm in rooms when we arrived, which makes a big difference. Stunning rooms which were spotless. Lovely breakfast in the morning and a fantastic host in Helen. Will definitely be going back, sooner rather than later!

We stayed in the Buttermere Court hotel, all staff very friendly, clean comfortable rooms, ours was first floor with a few small flights of stairs. Room 5 was over the dining room for residents not over the bar.
Very flexible on cooked breakfast, perfect poached egg. Lake and Mountain View from room.
Car park had cones for residents ready to use on arrival, free until departure at 11am moved the car a few spaces along and paid on return from walk.
On the road side of the walk the terrain can be a little rocky and we walked through the tunnel.
On return we had a lovely bowl of soup at Sykes farm cafe and a filled Yorkshire pudding just before the Bridge Hotel.

Great location, very warm welcome, delicious food (we ate in the restaurant in the evening and then had a great Cumbrian breakfast included in our stay!). Family room was a great layout for a family with older teens. We made use of the gym and swimming pool. Would return!

Absolutely stunning landscape.
Absolutely stunning landscape. There are lots of beautiful walks from the hotel and a great tea room - the Flock Inn with wonderful views from the back seatin area. It is short walk to Stonethwaite which has a great pub and mining museum in the church. The best thing is the serenity and lack of other tourists.

This is the place to unwind, take in the amazing 360 scenery.
Theres loads to do, walks, hike, rent bikes, kayaks, paddle boarding or just sit and watch the world go by.
I ate at the restaurant Id booked The Glaramara hotel, they prepare exceptional food, my time was taken with hikes up Herons Pike, Scafell Pike and a good long walk around the Derwent lake.
It’s a place that asks for your full attention and rewards it with a deep sense of peace. For me, Borrowdale isn't about what you do, but about what you feel—a sense of solitude and connection to something wild and enduring.
I left feeling quite emotional and cant wait to return.

Applethwaite is a hamlet pressed against a hill at an elevation of some 60m above Keswick and Derwent Water. It is only a 30-40 minute stroll to the many cosy pubs in Keswick for a drink or a hearty meal.
Keswick is a nice place with many outdoor and mountaineering shops — a clear mark of what the visitor can expect from the surrounding countryside.
From Keswick one can take double-decker coaches running to many places and lakes further afield. We fell in love with the Borrowdale valley S of Derwent Water, Grassmere, Buttermere, Langdale, Ullswater…
