Stylish, comfortable and well-equipped with a beautiful view. Everything I needed and more - very well-designed and thoughtfully equipped. Bed was really comfortable - best night’s sleep in a long time! Ample parking and lovely rural setting. Host was really friendly and helpful and provided a very helpful welcome pack. I absolutely recommend this property and I will certainly be back!

Shap was lovely, 10 miles from Penrith, so it is a shame this software came up with inaccurate location and worse that there is no facility to put it right. We did drive through and round Penrith but can't say any more about it. Shap had nice countryside all round. We liked our meal in the Crown Inn. Co op shop was good. Shap Abbey was well worth a visit. Shap was also a good location for seeing lots of good places all around

Pooley Bridge is a fascinating place (village? town?)

Pooley Bridge is a fascinating place (village? town?) I'll be back soon. The huge wood above is a walkers paradise and apparently there are remains from way back on top. D'you know any walking and'or cycling guides? That would be really useful for us townies. Another feature I'm interested in is the fact that Ullswater is the source of a river, not the other way round...... can you work out which river? Cycling down to Howtown is cycling bliss. The question is can you go over the top further on down?

You need to approach tbe farm from the South down near the main Penrith Keswick rd. The weather wasn't good during our visit but the decking has a BBQ which would have been fantastic. There's a Lama farm and great Cafe with farm shop just across the main road about a mile away.

A short walk from this wonderful village is Lowther Castle and estate. Great walking from this village - you can walk over to Pooley Bridge over the fells - just brilliant. Two great pubs in the village and an outdoor public swimming pool. Really great place to stay.

A small village - but very near to the M6 so easy access to a beautiful part of the lakes. The pub is a great traditional pub - we had a few drinks after walking before we had dinner at our accommodation. Very friendly. Beautiful countryside and no through traffic. Easy to get to Pooley Bridge or along Ullswater. Close to 3 smaller Wainwrights as well for those wanting to climb a bit higher. Aira Force is very close and makes a great walk - around 2 hours or so to the top of Gowbarrow via the falls - wonderful for a picnic lunch! Loads to explore from here - one visit just isn't enough!

Ellonby is a good base to get to Penrith, the northern, central or southern lakes. There is a local restaurant, if its sunny, you can walk to Skelton and sit on the bench outside for a beer, but inside its a very nice gastro restaurant for meals only. The Boot & Shoe is the best local pub which is an 8min drive away and is also very nice.

It is a good starting point for the North Lakes and I especially enjoyed my trip and walk by the side of Ullswater which is spectacular. It is a World Heritage Site and so remains unspoilt by commercialisation. I last walked by it 20 years ago and it is still the same. As I was only there for 2 days whilst visiting family who were on holiday I didn't really investigate solo trips but it is something for the future. From the station there seemed to be buses to places North and West of the town. It is a place I would consider visiting again in the future

There are some great shops, a lovely Bookshop cafe, run by two great women where we had a great cup of coffee and some toast and marmalade. They were very friendly and after we looked for some books. Not all places are wheelchair friendly, so you may have to Google it for yourself.

Penruddock is a great location for exploring the Ullswater area and only 15 minutes from Keswick, some road noise as its a busy road from Keswick to Penrith. Must sees in the area include Lodore falls, Aira force (early morning or late is best), Dodds wood, Winlatter for fantastic views, a visit to Buttermere is well worth the drive, for views with a short walk - Surprise view is has fabulous views and Castlerigg stone circle.
