"We go there a day or two early arriving from Athens to board our cruise ship. Piraeus is a lovely city. Almost next door is a new building with a bar looking out over the harbour. Down on the corner is a great kebab place and just across the road is a local, family run taverna with great food. We always order too much!"

"Aegina is a very easy boat trip from Piraeus with about 10 ferries daily. It is beloved by Athenian day trippers so the boats, the towns and the beaches can be extremely crowded. It still retains a lot of charm and is well worth a visit. However, once official summer begins with the Whit Bank Holiday weekend it would be necessary to book everything - ferries, restaurants, taxis - in advance.
There is a very limited bus service so plan your visit around the timetables, otherwise you will be faced with long queues for very expensive taxis.
There are plenty of good restaurants and bars but don't go expecting a bargain - meals and drinks are expensive enough unless you shop around.
In Marathonas we recommend Stratigos (excellent value) and Ammos (wonderful daily specials)."

"Hydra is extraordinary. No cars! You really need a couple of days at least to settle into the island vibe and just to start to figure out how things work. I loved walking around the nooks and crannies of Hydra Port. It's like a set to a movie or something. Would've been an amazing place to play hide-n-seek as a child. If you are in need of groceries, there's a wide range in prices depending on how close to the water you are. Up and away from the water, both groceries and restaurants become considerably cheaper, catering to the locals. I prefer to see how the locals do things anyway. However, I will say that the Sunday morning I spent dining, sipping coffee, and people watching out near the water was really relaxing and special. It's a really unique destination that I can't recommend highly enough!"

"I love this island where I spent most of my summers 40+ years ago. There are no private cars, only bicycles and horse cabs. There were always motorcycles for rent, very popular, although dangerous and noisy. I was shocked by the new presence of ATVs which are against the no-motor vehicle culture. Very bulky and unnecessary.
I strongly recommend the daily boat rides to alternate beaches with facilities for about 12 euros round trip. Zogeria is my favorite bech with clear water, there are beach umbrellas and loungers for rent and a taverna with delicious home-made food.
The local bus is an alternative but the schedule is not clear, the line is long and the frequency inadequate, especially considering the investing of a mega air-conditioned bus.
We were there the third week of July which coincided with a terrible heat wave. Not easy to be anywhere in Greece during a heat wave but the beach was a blessing followed by the traditional siesta to rest during the hot hours of the day. Our favorite stop was the Dodoni ice cream parlor on the way to the hotel (opposite Aghios Mamas bus stop).
Everyone goes out after 8-9 pm for dinner a a cooler evening, lots of restaurants and bars."

"This is a great place close to the water and many restaurants and shopping. We walked most places but took a taxi to Marathon.
This is a local holiday vacation place so some apartments were closed for the season but the restaurants were open. We loved it."

Room is comfortable and good size. Bathroom is similar to North American standard.
Breakfast is excellent- buffet style and order to cook.
Front desk and dining room staffs are friendly helpful. Especially Savvas who helped us a lot.

Whether or not you love this city depends a lot on your tolerance for dirt and poverty. There's a lot to see and do, and of course the antiquity of it all is amazing. We eat only kosher food and there are a few more kosher options here than there used to be. It's also a great budget destination, offering extremely good value for your Euro.

Piraeus is a very walkable city. Fantastic food and coffee options, along with markets that specialize in Greek delicacies. I wish we had booked an additional day or two to visit more of Athens' historical sites. It was quite easy to get from the International airport to our hotel, as we booked this service through Booking.com

A lovely beachfront town and a great alternative to the hustle and bustle of Athens. The atmosphere is calm and friendly, and the boardwalk is wonderfully vibrant, lined with tavernas serving fresh seafood and grilled meats. The beaches offer a mix of pebbles and golden sand, with clean, clear water.
While there are certainly more spectacular beaches elsewhere in Greece, Artemida/Lutsa is a great choice if you're looking for reasonably priced accommodation and dining (without the steep prices of the Athenian Riviera), along with a nice balance of sightseeing and beach tim. Excellent as a base for Airport / ferry transfers.

Hydra is enchanting with its historic character and traffic-...
Hydra is enchanting with its historic character and traffic-free streets. It truly has a soul of its own, with its donkeys, cats, and beautiful houses. It is the kind of place you want to visit again and again.
Veranda Restaurant, meanwhile, is a place where you can enjoy incredibly delicious food while admiring Hydra from above and feeling truly special. I highly recommend it.

Convenient city close to Athens airport.
Convenient city close to Athens airport. Great place to stay if you are in transit and do not want to spend the time and money to sleep in downtown Athens.
Small city with some nice cafes and restaurants.
There is a great zoological park nearby which we plan to explore next time.

I stayed at Askeli during my visit, the weather was windy...
I stayed at Askeli during my visit, the weather was windy and clear. The beach is clean, and the sea is clean too, but not turquoise. Shop owners, in particular, are generally rude in town, acting as if you're bothering them. Hotel was comfortable and good enough, clean rooms, staff are friendly and helpful. My holiday was generally good and happy. Taxi driver in first day took euros more than the schedule. I prefer to eat Gallini restaurant in Askeli.

Besides the nice beaches...all within walking distances, it...
Besides the nice beaches...all within walking distances, it also offered a huge choice of restaurants, all well priced but more importantly...all so incredibly well located at least across from the beach front if not right on the beach itself. Idyllic!

Spetses is a truly charming island with a unique atmosphere. We loved wandering through the beautiful old streets, enjoying the traditional architecture, the peaceful surroundings, and the lovely seaside views. The island has a wonderful mix of elegance, nature, and authentic Greek charm.

More quiet than other locations. Great family spot.
More quiet than other locations. Great family spot. Good food and very good service. The beach offers sunbeds in exchange for eating at the beach restaurant. Water pleasantly warm and very clean. We went there at the beginning of July and it was not too crowded. The Monastery of St Nectary can be reached via local bus that leaves from the center at very friendly price. Also taxi service is available for 20 euros. We rented a car for two days. The car was delivered at our location and picked up the same way. The car rent company from Aegina offered guidance on what we should visit , what areas have bad roads and guided us to the nicest places. We recommend Perdika beach for eating fresh fish and taking the boat to Moni little island 15 -20 minutes ride. There you can see wild peacocks and wild deer. The island has a clear blue water beak great for snorkeling. Also you can rent pair of sun beds and umbrella for 20 euros. Island also has a great beach bar. All in All Agia Marina is quieter than Aegina harbor, and offers amazing walking areas with a small chapel on the beach. Also the Temple of AFAIA is very close and can be visited for a nice view on the Antic Greece. Enjoy the island!

A great walkable town.
A great walkable town. Plenty of restaurants, bars and cafes and lots of nice souvenir stores. There was a laundromat within walking distance of our hotel which also helped. Nice local beaches with cheap sun lounges.
