If you’re on the fence, book this place! This was an incredible hotel. While the photos online are great, they really don’t do this hotel justice! I stayed in the suite and had incredible volcano views with awesome sunsets every night. The pool area is heavenly, the restaurant has really good food, but what really makes this place is the incredible staff. Super attentive, always willing to help, give recommendations, and make your stay as pleasant as possible. The hotel only has seven rooms total but when I was there it seemed it was only half full (which is very surprising), so if you’re looking for peace and solitude with insane views and a pool and grounds to match, this is your place. Big shoutout to the staff who helped set up transport to the airport and dealt with my many questions! Cannot wait to come back! I’d stay here over Casa Palopó any day.

We loved our stay at Mikaso! The hotel is beautiful and its location is unbeatable. The rooftop terrace has an incredible view of the lake with tables and really comfy lounge chairs. The shared kitchen has everything you need to cook your meals and even has a choice of coffee makers. They have kayaks you can rent for a very low cost, and the 2 times we rented them, they rounded the time down for us, which was really nice. And last but not least, the staff is super helpful and friendly. A special shutout to Don René, who works the front desk at night. He gave us the best tips on places to see and recommended the restaurant with the best food we had in all of Guatemala! (We sadly couldn't try the hotel restaurant, but it seemed pretty good!)

This Eco Hotel in San Marcos is truly a gem! Surrounded by nature, every detail is thoughtfully designed to create a harmonious connection with the environment. They prioritize sustainability by using natural bathroom products to protect the sacred lake, just a minute's walk away. Starting my mornings with a swim in its tranquil waters made it the most serene place on earth. Supporting the local family who owns this property, honoring Mayan culture and the land, is a decision I highly recommend. The vegan cuisine served at the restaurant is not only delicious but also my favorite during my 2-week stay. I will miss this place dearly and look forward to returning next year. Gracias and see you soon!

Beautiful views, and a very calm and relaxed place to enjoy Lake Atitlan from. Easy to catch public boats to explore the rest of the lake during the day, but also a very comfortable place to sit sunbathing or Strom watching. The apartment was spacious and clean, and the staff were very helpful staff. The on site vegan restaurant was also very nice.

Pana is a bustling friendly town with lots of shops, cafes and restaurants as well as accomodation to suit all budgets. It is also a transportation hub for getting around Guatemala. The old part of the town (Jucanyá) is worth a visit for its lake front and views. Pana has a great market too. You can travel to other parts of the lake easily from the main dock. Tuks tuks can transport you around the town quite cheaply. I recommend Circus Bar for great pizza and lunches/dinners. The main town can be a bit noisy, so choose your accomodation carefully or bring ear plugs.

It's a great village to walk around.

It's a great village to walk around. It's not just a party town. There are quiet spots. For instance, if you walk up to the main road from the Boat ramp from Panajachel, turn left instead of right, go down to the end and then right, up through the maze of restaurants, places to stay, etc. Very quiet, very nice, very tropical, and different than the heart of the village, which would be if tuned right at the main street - up the hill from the boat ramp, which is only a 2 to 3 minute walk.

The town is up a steep hill so be prepared for some exercise or take a tuk tuk! Gorgeous views! Take a cooking class there like we did! Laid back town, not a lot to do or many restaurants, but a more authentic town that supports its Mayan locals with local wares and cuisines.

The market is fabulous for fibery things.

The market is fabulous for fibery things. Backstrap looms, cotton weaving yarn, and finished yardage and garments. NOT touristy, hard to find coffee before ten a.m., and very little English-speaking. It's a noisy and bustling center for locals (rural Mayans). The shops and the market are a bonanza if you are a fiber tourist. If you're looking for an idyllic green and quiet oasis on the lake, you need to look to the outskirts of town, or hop on a ferry to one the many smaller, more tourist oriented communities

This is the main hub on Lake Atitlan, with all the pros and cons that come with that. There is a great viewpoint on the lake and a few fully stocked grocery stores. If you are spending any significant time at the lake it is likely that you will make multiple stops here for supplies. The main street, Calle Santander has a good selection of restaurants, and there are handicraft shops scattered all around. A good hub - there are better sights around the lake, but this is where the most things are conveniently concentrated.

We enjoyed San Pedro. it was picturesque with the beautiful lake and mountains. It was walkable, also easy to get a TukTuk. If you walk up the hill into the village, you get past the tourist streets and see local life. There are plenty of restaurants and shops. Many of the restaurants had seating that looked out over the lake. The souvenir market sellers are not pushy. We went to a Mayan museum, Tzunun' Ya'. It was informative about the formation of the lake and the traditional life of the Mayan people. We didn't see sandy beach areas to throw out a blanket and sit by the lake.

We were a group of six over 55's off on a great adventure. San Juan la laguna gave us so many things to do and see. we hired a local guide to talk to us about the spectacular murals and artist in town. we hiked the mirador. toured a honey farm. enjoyed serval meals. One that stands out was the Cafe Alma De Colores. it promotes social inclusion of people with disabilities. they also have a wonderful gift shop, with handcrafted items that support this population. visiting the street of sombras and the steert of umberellas. Lovely community . friendly warm and welcoming.
