The breakfast was fabulous. The dining room is so nice with the view of the river. The food was wonderful and there was way more than we could all eat. My grandparents owned the castle and it was in the family until the recent sale and renovation. It was amazing to be in the castle and the small village of Vinica. I would love to return some day.

We enjoyed a completely pampered stay - definitely a plus on a 10 week roadtrip abroad as the hotel afforded total downtime on what was otherwise a whirlwind tour of places we've never explored. The hotel is amazing for its location and history, and the wine tasting experience in the old castle tower was a highlight.

The front desk staff are THE BEST! They helped me with a million questions, were so kind and welcoming every time I stopped by, and we're just overall some of the best, most welcoming hotel staff I've ever interacted with! The hotel itself has lovely old charm and is ornate and gorgeous, but the rooms are still modern and updated. I was in a room by the elevator but didn't even notice the noise. I had a delightful view onto the courtyard. The spa and wellness area is fantastic with many different options, both for pools and for services. I was able to book 2 services at the last minute, and they were lovely and reasonably priced. Breakfast was FANTASTIC. A great buffet with a variety of selections. I was just sad I'm not very hungry in the mornings so I couldn't eat more.

This is a great place to stay while traveling, especially with kids. It has a large playground, an arcade room, a bowling alley, and a restaurant. The food was really good, the room was comfortable, and although it’s by the road, it’s quiet and surrounded by beautiful green scenery.

A typical provincial town.

A typical provincial town. One or even two huge shopping centers at the entrance to the town. The medieval town center is more or less separated from the rest of the town by a river; there are practically two parts and two speeds in terms of life, traffic, stores and gastronomy. You can do or get almost everything in Novo Mesto.

10/10 - Small, quaint, historic building with large deck overlooking a beautiful small stream that flows through the center of town. Staff very attentive, works hard to make everything perfect. If you want the perfect weekend getaway, this is the perfect option vs a large chain hotel. Much more of a bed & breakfast type atmosphere, with a small charming restaurant/bar. Staff speaks good english. ATM located just across the street. Two blocks from a large spa. If traveling in the area, we would definitely stay here again.

Spacious rooms and bathroom - and that's about it. Mini fridge didnt work no tea and coffee facilties Breakfast additional charges a complete rip off Rental bikes were in a shocking condition (for a sport hotel) - how does management not see this. Out of 10 bikes not one was ridable for my husband and myself. We had to walk to the Castle who at least had half decent bikes. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone -

I’ve visited Kocevje each time I come to Slovenia, because it’s where my grandparents were born. Over the last 12 years, Kocevje and neighboring Ribinica have really come into their own with the promotion of outdoor activities - biking, hiking, etc. So much more materials and support for those active vacations. And a whole lot less traffic (and ridiculously steep hills!) than in other parts of Slovenia! And you don’t fight crowds all the time. Quite a few options required prior contact with the business / director / owner of a museum, or tour option, but if you plan ahead there’s so much to do. And now, a train station!

The Castle is a marvel.

The Castle is a marvel. We enjoyed the stay, the nature and the overall atmosphere. The rooms are perfect. Exactly as one would expect for a renovated castle to be. The entire castle is renovated in a way to preserve as much as they could but where it was needed it was done in a tasteful modern way. This is a place where you can truly relax and enjoy. Food and service is top notch. Fine dining at its best. Recommended for all, at least once.

Kočevje offers many attractions as well as opportunities for leisure and sports activities. There's a well-maintained MTB trail park, numerous hiking trails, and the option to swim in the lake. The town also has a few good restaurants where you can enjoy local cuisine. A truly pleasant place with very friendly people
