The hotel is really fantastic. It's a real case of value for money. The location, the breakfast, the staff, the restaurants, the rooms and the overall ambience are really nice. The hotel is incentive enough for me to warrant a second visit to the place. The Zafran restaurant is awesome and two items out of the three items that we'd had, Chicken Patiala and the Blueberry Cheesecake were perhaps the best two items that I'd had in a long, long time.

This was my second time staying here, and I can actually see how the place is slowly building up, step by step. Nothing flashy or overdone, but the improvements are noticeable and thoughtful. They clearly care about keeping the space fresh and clean. The service is simple, not overwhelming, but very professional in small details, which makes the stay comfortable. It’s nice to see a place growing with such care and honesty. Wishing them good luck!

I stayed at the Ethnotel four different times during my most recent trip to this area of Asia. Because its location is so convenient to the Kolkata Airport, it worked brilliantly as a hub to come back and forth to. The great hotel staff were easy to communicate with, always helpful, and exceptionally kind. A special shoutout to Mr Joy, the hotel driver, who was always able to spot me at the curb for the airport to hotel transfers. Although technically across the street from airport, this isn't anything you'd want to walk since the road is pretty circuitous. You need to arrange a transfer. My rooms were always immaculately clean with strong a/c and good plumbing. Decor wise, yes, the rooms perhaps need to be updated, but the price is right and everything worked. No complaints whatsoever. Room service was good as well as the buffet breakfast in the dining room. I was pleased with everything and everyone here!

Staying at Calcutta Bungalow was one of the best highlights of our visit to Kolkata. We greatly appreciate the efforts that have been put in giving a second life to the historical building. The renovation work had been done beautifully. We enjoyed the food prepared by the kitchen and particularly loved the river prawn dishes, Chingri Moshla Polao MH and Herbed Chingri Malaikari. We also enjoyed the walking tour organised by the hotel that took us to a unique multi-cultural neighbourhood in the city.

I’ve been to India quite a few times so I’m sort of used to the chaos but some parts of Kolkata were sooo chaotic and really rather revolting. Would highly recommend visit to South Park Street cemetery and St John’s church - fascinating gravestones/ memorial plaques.

Kolkata is very fantastic place and we see the glimps of our historical culture. It reminds us our past and culture is still here that we have lost in other cities. It's best city to make visit for our kids. In Delhi and other cities we couldn't find our rituals and customs but here I have seen those things ,we have somewhere forgotten but here everything came back to us .I like most Kolkata city if I get chance to visit my kids again I'll come. Meusium, Victoria palace,new market for shopping,South City mall,everywhere we can eat because good food is available in very cheap onething is that in Kolkata no one can sleep hungry. I'm very happy to write such comments for Kolkata.

It's a small hill town in the foothills of the Himalayas.

It's a small hill town in the foothills of the Himalayas. It is more pristine and much less crowded than Kalimpong. There's not much to see in the city, but you can spend 2 to 3 days relaxing, perhaps taking a hike here and there. I liked the overall vibe of the city more than any particular place. Of course, there's always Kangchenjungha to look at (best viewed during November and December).

Toiletries were inadequate . Bedsheet should not be torn in places, in this aspect management should not turn a blind eye, which they did inspite of being reminded. Wi fi is good. But TV is just a show because only Free to air channels are available. General Cleanliness of the room was good. Geyser works. Breakfast Menu especially on a Sunday Morning is an embarassment compared to what is printed on the MENU and what is available on the on the table or as room service. Staff behaviour is good . The management has to get rid of their take it or leave it policy and overcome their short coming mentioned above.

Calcutta or Kolkata is a city with contradictions. It has intriguing colonial history. But going around Kolkata is a challenge. We loved the British structures around the city including the vibrant Part Street. A drink at Trinca's is a must. Food is varied and yummy esp. Bengali cuisine (Sonar Tori in Salt Lake mall is very good). It is called the City of Joy but the cleanliness could be much much better. People are warm and friendly. A cruise over river Hoogly is a must.
