This was the best hotel we stayed in Iceland. The free amenities (Sauna, Hot tub, pool billiard, bathrobe, flip flops, etc.) and the free breakfast were just great. The room was modern and spacious. The northern lights wake up call is a wonderful free service (we didn't have any luck though). The location is incredible across from a volcano walking trail. Seriously, we were so excited when we saw what the hotel offers for such little money (in March). Will definitely stay here again when I return. Thank you!

The entire hotel was amazing. The rooms were really nice and clean. There was a common area with a kitchenette and some sofas where we ended up spending our evening. There is also a restaurant where we had dinner and breakfast. The food was great. Overall, it was an amazing stay with great views.

Nice farm house that is a 10 minute drive across, LIKE ACROSS from Godofoss Waterfall! There's a souvernir shop, places to park near Godofoss and this is down a GRAVEL ROAD ACROSS from Godofoss! So if you are driving the Golden Circle and want a place to stay for the night.....this is a cool FARM HOUSE with a great breakfast in the morning! If you continue with a rental car WEST of Godofoss make sure you pay 24 HOURS BEFORE or After for the only tunnel you will need to pay for to drive through! Here's the website. https://mitt.veggjald.is/login Otherwise you can just drive through and they will charge your rental company but might charge you extra if YOU DON'T DO.

We visited all the famous sites

We visited all the famous sites The Thermal baths was great. A big area (and currently expanding). The restaurant there was very reasonably priced for Iceland. They made a great coffee. Food was good. Went to the geothermal site which was pretty amazing. We hiked up Hverfjall, theextinct volcano which was interesting. Went to Dentifoss and Selfoss which were very impressive We enjoyed our stay. Well worth a visit

Hvitserkur ocean rock was a waste of time.

Hvitserkur ocean rock was a waste of time. The road to get there is bumpy and gravel. The viewing platform does not get you the close up picture you see online. The get the close up you have to climb down a cliff that is posted with danger signs (not meant for young children), and the tide has to be all the way out. Kolugljufur canyon is pretty. We would have enjoyed hiking the trails in that area but didn't have time.

We toured up the valleys, especially the Vatnsdalur and the Vididalur, out to Hvitserkur and around both Peninsulas. Think of the Uncountable Hills and the Vatnsdalur as the better site for Rohan in the Lord of the Rings. The views everywhere were magnificent. We appreciated the care for history and the number of historical sites. As for the tourist sites, the parking lots were really a muddy, rutted and flooded mess (mid-April). The grocery store is very well stocked and the gift shop was warm and welcoming. Out on Skagi, we were among loons and ptarmigans. Close to town, we spotted a little falcon. The swans were camera shy, but the seals were curious and watched us as closely as we watched them. If you like sculpture, there is a stunning collection of scrap iron sculptures in Skagaströnd. In my mind, not to be missed. If you like that kind of thing, it's worth the drive. One of Ásmundar's statues (The Man Who Watches the Weather) is right downtown in Blönduós. A real treat.

It is a small village, but a great stopover in North Iceland (Skagafjörður area), offering a wonderful mix of culture, scenic landscapes, and relaxing spots. We visited the Glaumbær Turf Farm Museum, Víðimýri Turf Church, and Reykjafoss Waterfall. We also enjoyed the stunning scenic views of the valleys, rivers, and surrounding mountains.

My stay at the guesthouse was a bit of a mixed bag.

My stay at the guesthouse was a bit of a mixed bag. On the positive side, the self-check-in process was a breeze, and I was pleasantly surprised by the level of cleanliness and the spaciousness of my room. The facilities, including the WiFi and kitchen, were top-notch, and I had no complaints on that front. However, there were a few quirks that left me feeling a bit unsure. The surrounding farm was somewhat peculiar, but I must admit that I'm not exactly an expert on farming, and I didn't book this place for its agricultural charm. The absence of any human interaction with the host was a tad disconcerting. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, and a friendly welcome or some local insights would have been appreciated. One noteworthy detail was the water quality, which had a distinct sulfur smell. While this might be normal for the area, it would have been helpful if the host had mentioned it beforehand. In summary, the guesthouse had fantastic facilities, but the lack of host interaction and the peculiar farm surroundings left me with mixed feelings. Plus, a heads-up about the unique water scent would have been a considerate touch. However, all in all, good to very good value for the money.

Akureyri is a real must for anyone considering visiting Iceland. It really has something for everyone- lagoons and thermal pools, whale watching, the northern lights (although obviously dependent on when you visit), an historic old town as well as a modern new town with shopping, cafes, restaurants, cinema, theatre etc. It's also the perfect base for exploring slightly further afield to Godafoss waterfall, Lake Myvatn (lava fields, mud pots, etc), Husavik (whale museum, whale watching, Geosea sea water thermal pool), and many others.

I’m 2/3 of circumnavigating Iceland, and I have to say that this area is the weirdest landscape yet—in a good way. In a small area there are extinct volcanoes, steaming hillsides, lakes with strange lava 'islands', ethereal mountains…….. so strange. So beautiful. Highly recommended.
