It's a small hotel that has rooms caved in rocks Technically you're living in a cave It was a lovely experience Room was spacious Heating in the room was excellent Staff friendly We had wine tasting experience which added a nice touch to the trip (highly recommended) Keep in mind that the hotel is in a ZTL zone Which means you have to park outside and take a taxi or walk to the hotel Receptionist was nice enough to recommend parking spots

PIANELLE RESORT has free bikes, shared lounge, a terrace and bar in Matera. This 4-star hotel offers a 24-hour front desk, a concierge service and free WiFi. Brand-new hotel just opened in August. It incorporates the atmosphere of a cave dwelling, a traditional Matera feature, but the room is very sophisticated and equipped with the latest control technology. Everything from the tasteful decor to the wonderful staff (helpful and friendly, yet professional), cozy room, soft and snugllable towels, sophisticated facilities, and excellent breakfast was superb. The location is right in front of the Piazza San Pietro Caveoso, where buses and cabs enter, so you don't need to climb up and down the stairs lugging heavy luggage around. Erica, the Room Division Manager, spoke excellent English and was very attentive to my needs, including sightseeing and arrangement of taxi. If you ever come to Matera, definitely book this hotel. Highly recommended.

Matera a világ egyik legrégebb óta lakott városa. A történelmi városközpont, mely egy szurdokvölgy szélére épült, ókori, sőt, őskori hangulatot áraszt barlanglakásaival, nem véletlen, hogy Pasolini és Mel Gibson is Jeruzsálemként használták díszletül filmjeikben. Fantasztikus nyugalom telepedik az emberre, amikor órákon át sétálva a házak között alig-alig találkozik a modern kor vívmányaival. A július 2-át közvetlenül megelőző időszakban Basilicata tartomány legnagyobb vallási ünnepére a Madonna della Bruná-nak szentelt felvonulásra készül a város, csodálatos díszítést, koncerteket, jelmezeseket figyelhet meg, aki ilyenkor erre jár. Matera katedrálisától a Civita városrészre nyílik fantasztikus kilátás, néhány utcányival odébb pedig már az ellenkező irányban gyönyörködhetünk a panorámában, a lélegzetelállító szurdokvölgy túlpartja is számos (ám már rég elhagyott) barlangot rejteget. A Civita városrész közepét jelentő Via Fiorentini környékén sok jó étterem közül válogathatunk. Ha a belváros rengeteg lépcsőjébe belefáradtunk, busszal 50 perc alatt a Ión-tenger, Metaponto strandja is elérhető.
