Located near the center of Akakura and only a 5-minute walk to ski elevators, Hotel Myosen offers accommodations with separate hot spring baths for male and female. The hotel is within walking distance to the ski chair lifts , its clean comfortable and provides a hearty breakfast which there was always plenty of . The public onsen was clean , hot and a unique Japanese experience. Only a 7-minute walk from Akakura Ski Resort, Hotel Taiko features indoor and outdoor public hot spring baths, massages and a sauna. The location of Hotel Taiko is perfect, restaurants and bars are within 10-200m walk, you can catch one of the frequent shuttle buses to the slopes or even walk if you have the energy - only takes 10-15 minutes to walk to the furthest away. We stayed in a Japanese style room, it was HUGE. Probably 90sqm, the view of the mountains was amazing from the room. It was room 511 I'd recommend it :) The outside onsen is amazing, going there after and before a day on the slopes is just way your body needs. Embrace the nudeness too! You'll see in other reviews the Hotel is dated etc, it is - and I have high standards about accomodation but Hotel Taikos location, view, onsen and comfort outweighs the fact it's a little run down. I read a previous review saying they wished it were closer to the slopes, any closer and you wouldn't have the view of all the mountains nor the convenience of the restaurants. Majority of the other guests were Japanese, as like the rest of Myoko which seriously makes the stay more enjoyable! Less tourists :D If you are a beginner boarder or skier (like me) i would 100% recommend getting lessons, they do English lessons at Myoko Sports which is about 150m from hotel Taiko, I booked in for a group lesson (max of 4) and ended up being the only one, so had two 2.5 hr lessons, after that I was up and down carving the slopes & falling about 95% less than when I tried it alone!
Boasting natural hot spring baths and a comforting lounge room with a fireplace, Akakura Yours Inn is cozy accommodations located in the highland resort area of Myoko. The best place to stay in Myoko Kogen area!!! The family is great and very helpful - the minibus service to powder fields was perfect, the gear carage and the drying facilities made our day. We had an unforgettable Japanese dinner one day and the food was delicious every time. Rooms, lobby, onsen, dining area and living room were clean - they had a fireplace at the living room :) Special thanks to friendly and joyful real Sherpa with stories from Nepal. We really enjoyed our stay! ps. The downstairs onsen feels heavenly after a skiing day.

Great location for skiiing and snowboarding! They have an onsite rental shop for everything so you can show up empty handed. The owner of the hotel is a wonderful, caring person who goes out of her way to help people in need - even people not staying at her hotel. When our train stopped one station short of Myoko Kogen, she came to pick us up. There were multiple delays because of weather but she never once made us feel like we were inconveniencing her. She even helped others who were stuck at the station by calling cabs for them.

The owners were very friendly and welcoming. They went out of their way to make our stay a memorable one. The onsen was lovely after a day skiing. The breakfast was plentiful and a good mix of Japanese and western. Coffee was drip coffee. Vending machine with cheap beer &soft drinks on-site. Large ski drying room. Rooms very clean and lovely outlook to trees and snow. There's a small basin in the room and a small fridge and freezer. They even supplied a basket of cutlery &plates which was perfect for our convenience store fruit and snacks. The owner was very kind and drive us to and from ski hill, to restaurants and the train on our departure. We had dinner in the lodge there was a discount for our 12year old daughter and she had smaller portion. Which she still couldn't finish. The food was excellent and very filling after a long day skiing. If in the area definitely ski suginohara. Great for intermediate and mid beginner. Children under 13ski free. Huge snow park at Sugi.

Everything! Kenichi San was so accommodating and helpful. He picked us and and dropped us off at the station or in town if we needed. The hotel and our room were great, very spacious and comfortable. Lovely onsen with a nice view outside. The hotel is ski in ski out with easy access to both akakura onsen and kanko. The food was amazing, particularly the sukiyaki we had for dinner one night made be Kenichi san! My partner left his jacket at the hotel after we left and Kenichi helped get it back to us with no trouble. If we come back to Myoko again we will definitely stay here. This was our third time in Myoko and this was the best place we have stayed!

Very welcoming, comfortable and clean ski lodge. Jeff and Tania (and family) went out of their way to make sure that all their guests had a great holiday both at the lodge and on the slopes. They were knowledgeable about the area which helped us plan our day trips. The breakfast was great. The onsen was a real treat at the end of the day and the tatami rooms were very comfortable. The lodge has a relaxed feel and spacious common area perfect for families and larger groups. We felt we had been welcomed into the crew and had an awesome day riding with Jeff and some of the other guests. We would highly recommend and hope to get back there ourselves.

Room was absolutely spotless clean, comfy bed, quiet, wonderful Shiseido shampoo, conditioner and body wash available in the room, public hot bath (onsen), games on hire for free, free shuttle bus from Joetsymyoko JR station, great selection of Japanese and Western breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff, check in and check out process very efficient and easy. Great Wi-Fi access. I highly recommend the Illumination Park event for visitors outside the skiing season, it was very pretty and park tickets are available at all Lawson and 7-11 in Japan for a discounted price of ¥1400 (normally ¥1500).

The staff were very friendly, remembering your name after the first time. The lounge area encourages interactions with other guests making it feel like chilling at home. They also were very active emailing me to see if I needed two beds or one and if I needed pickup from the station.

The staff at Kogakuro is extremely nice and helpful. Our trains got canceled and they helped us reroute our plans and even drove us to the train station! The onsen onsite is gorgeous! There is an outside and inside onsen and it is very nice!
