Hotel in Hakuba
Located in Hakuba, 4.9 miles from Tsugaike Kogen Ski Area, THE HAPPO by Hakuba Hotel Group has accommodations with a restaurant, free private parking and a bar. We had a fabulous stay here at the Happo! Everything in hotel including room+bathroom and onsen was definitely newly upgraded! We requested pick up and drop off at train station, which was provided! The breakfast was perfect for a full day at the mountain, it wasn’t really a buffet but more order off a menu for main entree and buffet for extras (croissant, toast, cheese, meat, yogurt and salad. Coffee was from a fancy machine, delicious! The Happo one lift was about a 15 min walk from the front door. There was a store across the hotel for equipment rentals and sales, we had our board waxed for $15. There is a basement floor to store all equipment. The onsen was seperate men from women and super clean, it provided everything you would need (towels and amenities). Although it was a bit pricey to stay…we loved staying here and would come back!
Hotel in Hakuba
Located just a 10-minute drive from Happo One ski slopes, Reposer Hakuba offers cozy and rustic private rooms in a large log cabin. The room felt bigger than I was expecting. Especially for 2 people with big suitcases filled with ski/snowboard gear. We didn’t feel crowded at all & this was after having 1-bedroom apartments in Niseko, Hokkaido 2 days before going to Nagano. The little sofa wasn’t expected so it was a comfortable surprise and when it wasn’t snowing, we had a beautiful view from the room/sofa. The room was very clean & the bathroom too. We had a lot of stuff to hang up every day after being on the mountain & there was a lot of space to hang things up by the room entrance. The drying room off of the hotel lobby was convenient too. We left boots, gloves & skis/board in there every night. The hotel staff picked us up and dropped us off at JR Hakuba Station and that was very convenient. They also dropped us off at Rhythm Ski Rental shop to get our other gear and Rhythm has a shuttle service too so they brought us back. We also got a couple rides into town and to the Happo One Gondola once or twice which was great but I think that’s not something they do in a normal non-corona year when every room is full. It was really quiet the first 3 nights there so I think we were just lucky that they were being so nice. We also walked into town every afternoon & evening & it was closer than I thought it would be. I think Echoland street/area with cafes/bars & restaurants was only about 12 to 15 minutes away and the walk is scenic. It was also not too far to walk the other way towards the gondola to get to other restaurants and bars and a couple of onsens as well. Probably 15 minutes too. I really liked the log cabin atmosphere and it felt like being in a cabin in the Colorado Rockies or Canadian Rockies which felt like a great escape within Japan after being stuck here due to corona international travel restrictions for the second winter in a row.

People: all the staff (reception, driver, restaurant staff) are very professional and welcoming. We feel so welcomed and relaxed during our stay. Special thanks to Manabe-san and his team for their sincere and wonderful customer services. French restaurant: the French cuisine is very high quality. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all well prepared and freshly made. Nice atmosphere and decor with beautiful flowers and lovely tableware. Hotel room: we booked a standard room for 3 nights and was kindly upgraded to a deluxe room with a spa bath on the 3rd night. The standard room is spacious with lovely furniture and a standard bath while the deluxe room is gorgeous with huge bathroom with a jacuzzi; the bedroom is also spacious with beautiful classic furniture and relaxing music/CD player provided. Free shuttle service: not only from Hakuba bus station to hotel, but also free shuttle to the slopes everyday. We don't have to wait for the public shuttle bus anymore (or check the bus timetable). Whenever we finished skiing, we just made a phone call to the hotel and they would pick us up immediately. So convenient and hassle free!! Ski rental shop nearby: 2 mins walk from the hotel; you can rent all the ski/snowboard equipment there and the hotel staff will pickup and return on your behalf. Very convenient!

Nozawa Onsen
Altitude Nozawa is your average Nagano ski resort hotel with all the essentials intact. what has made our stay utterly enjoyable was the company of hotel staff. Our sincere gratitude to Jack, Kleber and Nobu san who went out of their ways to help us sort out the ski gear, picking us up and dropping us off to the slopes, bus terminals and restaurant outings. Paul, upon sudden notice of my diet, made me a mushroom omelette for breakfast, it was absolutely delicious. Such a lovely team, undoubtedly due to the leadership skills of Jack.
The hotel staff were very kind and helpful. We went before most of the nearby facilities were open for the season but the staff went out of the way to bring us to the ski school and the onsen. They also informed us of the stopping of train service due to the heavy snow when we were about to leave for the train station and sent us to a nearby bus stop to catch a bus to Nagano instead. our holiday would have been ruined if not for the help of Sakura San and Ms Anisu (I hope I got the name correct). Thank you so much!
Nagano
Nagano has a lot of beautiful and interesting places and 1166Backpackers i a great place to stay while being there. The staff has great recommendations for places and restaurants to visit and it is a lot of fun to sit in the lounge in the morning and evening and talk to the staff and the other guests. On my last day in Nagano I went hiking with two other guests I met at this hostel. All in all I had a really fun time there and I can recommend staying at 1166Backpackers, especially when travelling alone.
So we realized we wouldn’t make the last bus to Hakuba just before our flight and realized that we needed to stay the night in Nagano. We looked for something close to the station, easy, and affordable. This ticked all of our boxes. The staff was so nice and accommodating. We LOVED the massage chairs on the top floor. We stumbled upon them on accident and it was a lovely surprise. The room was small (not really for Japan) and dated, but comfortable and clean. Overall we were super happy with our stay.
Highly recommend. We would definitely come back here. Great property located close to the chair lift. Very comfortable apartment with all the facilities required for a family of 4. Owners were friendly and very helpful picking us up from the bus station and taking us grocery shopping. Can rent skis on-site and at good rates. My wife had an accident and the owners were kind enough to drive us to Nagano hospital, a one hour drive, and were always available if requiring assistance.
Nagano
If you are looking for a nice 1-2 night stay in the heart of Nagano's traditional temple district, this is it. The rooms are comfortable and the staff is extremely accommodating. The breakfast and dinners are in an authentic ryokan style, with many different traditional Japanese dishes. I loved the location because it was easy to just step out and do a bit of shopping or go to a nearby restaurant/cafe.
The breakfast was adequate (Japanese style buffet breakfast). The location was perfect for access to the ski slopes, and very close to the bus stop where you catch the bus to/from Nagano City. The commercial restaurants in the 1st floor of the hotel are really good (Japanese & Nepalese/Indian)... you could wear your slippers there and not have to go out in your snow shoes.
Nagano
Fantastic location, close to Nagano Station and shopping areas. A pleasant walk to Zenkoji temple. Quite a large room for Japanese standards, suitable size for a family of 4. Well appointed, full kitchen, decent sized fridge, microwave etc. Great shower and water pressure. A very quiet room with minimal road noise heard. A quiet complex of 5 apartments only.. Netflix provided.
Perfect ryokan in remote Japan. The experience was beyond expectations. The shrines in the area are superb! Everything was perfect and the hostess was very helpful. The food is amazing (but there's too much!)! The ryokan can be easily access by car from Nagano. It is a 35min scenic drive. I suggest nissan-rent-a-car right next to the train station. Everything went smoothly.
Nagano
Everything about my stay was great - from the beautiful traditional Japanese house, delicious feast carefully prepared by the owners, warm and cozy room with a spectacular view of Nagano mountains, to the surrounding nature, snow, and calming atmosphere. Oshi-san (the owner) is the kindest and most welcoming person you can imagine - can't recommend this stay enough!
Nagano prefecture is probably my favorite place in Japan. On this trip we visited Kamisuwa Onsen in Lake Suwa and it did not disappoint. + Hotel shuttle picked us up from JR Kami-Suwa Station, just contact them beforehand + Super friendly and helpful staff + Awesome lake view! + Japanese suite room very large + Excellent dinner and breakfast + In-room onsen
Yamanouchi
Exceptionally accommodating. My brother and I planned on arriving at Nagano at 4pm and take a bus but we ended up arriving at 8pm with no way to the hotel. We called the hotel and they gave us a train route and unexpectedly called us a taxi to pick us up from the train station. We ended up arriving at 10PM and they prepared us an amazing dinner. Awesome place!
Nagano
Great location, just a short walk from Nagano Station and a block from the main street leading up to Zenkoji Temple. The proprietor was very accommodating. Although compact, the room had everything one needs for a short stay. Very comfy pillows and thick soft towels. As with everything in Japan, there was quite a lot packed into a small place.
Quite nice decorated hotel with both indoor and outdoor onsen. Staffs were extremely helpful and friendly. Shuttle bus is operated between hotel and ski site, very convenient for skiers. Transfers to bus station to Nagano is also available on requests. Moreover, Japanese style restaurant serves delicious dinner at a reasonable price.
The location is super awesome, you just need to walk around 3 minutes from the station. As Nagano weather is unpredictable during winter, its strategic position is really really helpful. Also, the staff is tried their best to be as nice as possible. They also provide breakfast, not the best but might be enough to start the day.
The hotel is very well located in the centre of Nagano city, 3 minutes from the main station and close access to most of the location to visit. The staff is nice and polite, and the hotel itself is quite clean. Even if the room is a little small, it's practical, clean for an affordable price. The bed were quite comfortable.
Superb hotel ! Value for the money. Location is near to Nagano Station hence we walked to the hotel. The open air onsen at roof top is really cool. You will surely like it. Also, after 9:30 pm they provide free ramen noodles with limited portion if you missed to have dinner. Overall experience was really nice !
The bathroom and the room were pretty spacious. The sofa bed in the triple room was more comfortable than I expected. The hotel was only a short walk from Nagano Station. There was a choice of drinks in the lounge, including tasty hot chocolate. We could store our bags before and after our stay.
Nagano
Staffs are very friendly and mingling with guest. You can get so many information for traveling around Nagano prefecture from them and also Japanese hints. As they are Japanese seniors who prompt to share everyone the good knowledge about Japanese cultures and experiences.
The staff was extremely kind and helpful. The bath is a nice addition, it's so good before or after your hike in the Nagano mountains. The location is very good and close to the station, very useful if you arrive to the city loaded with stuff.
