The amenities are excellent. There’s a jacuzzi in the room, karaoke, adult amenities for a secret rendezvous. Everything you need is available from the tv: Oder meals anytime, products, entertainment, information. The food prices are reasonable and quite delicious. It’s delivered rather quickly through a hatchet beside the door.

The staff were all helpful and polite. They went out of their way to make our stay really special. I asked at short notice if a small celebration cake could be added to the evening meal for my partner's birthday. It was too late to prepare that, but still they presented her with a small gift at the end of the meal, beautifully wrapped, which was so unexpected! The Japanese breakfasts were delicious and each ingredient was introduced and explained. The evening meal was wonderful, one of the best meals this month in Japan. The room with western beds and a japanese room was very comfy and clean and the onsen was perfect for a small hotel. Overall the hotel was so relaxing and we felt welcome, even though we only spoke a little Japanese. The beach in front was idyllic and the ceramic shops were great, having a chance to meet the ceramicists . The best hotel vidit so far! Thank you!

This was my second stay at this location. Very comfortable, great views of the beach and ocean from our room, quiet and very relaxing. Went for a very pleasant walk along the beach lined with palm trees, looking a bit like a Hawaiian beach! My wife normally does not enjoy saunas but she found this one quite a bit of fun. The meals are excellent although (I believe) they use fresh local ingredients, they may vary from season to season depending upon the quality of the ingredients available. I also appreciate the upstairs lounge with free drinks and snacks. There is also lots of space in the downstairs lobby to sit and have a coffee or tea. The staff are exceptionally pleasant. HIghly recommended if you are looking for a quiet place to do nothing but relax and enjoy!

A hidden gem. Lots to see, great walks.

A hidden gem. Lots to see, great walks. A sleepy old Japanese town steeped in history with a modern touch. The trees lining the river are sakura (cherry blossom) trees which bloom spectacularly in early spring. Also a visit to Iwakuni Castle is a must via the walking trail or cable car ride. View is spectacular.

We didn’t really stay long enough to explore the area but it felt very quiet and peaceful. We did enjoy a fun activity of ten pin bowling which we stumbled across on the short walk from the train to the accommodation. In Sundays trains run infrequently so I recommend planning for that.

I absolutely loved Hagi, we stayed for 3 nights and plan to...

I absolutely loved Hagi, we stayed for 3 nights and plan to return and stay again sometime in the future. The city art museum is impressive, the old merchant houses are interesting, the beach is absolutely stunning and the pottery was too tempting as I bought 4 pieces. I'd recommend visiting the atmospheric temples - Tokoji and Daishoin. Definitely stop by Meirinkan - this combines an interesting museum with tourist information, cafe, restaurant and shop selling a good selection of items. Sadly we didn't have time to visit the temple ruins or Mount Kasayama.

People in Ube were very kind and generous. Local foods are very good, in particular seafood. The train connection is not good; it takes almost one hour from the Shinkansen station. But the flight connection to Tokyo is very good.

Hagi was home to several prominent and important figures in Japanese history. It was the hot bed of ideas starting with Yoshida Shoin whose free schools encouraged pride in being Japanese and also in having aspirations/dreams. The Hagi 5 brought back ideas from England that helped launch Japan's rapid industrialization. It was the crossroads for Satsuma's Saigo Takamori, Tosa's Ryoma Sakamoto and Hagi's Shoin Yoshida to formulate a united plan to bring down the Tokugawa Shogunate. This area should have been declared a World Heritage Side. Maybe it would be if more information was provided in English for non-Japanese visitors.
