Amazing location, one building away from the onsen. Extremely clean and modern interior and decor. The staff were really friendly. There is a range of different room types, hostel style pods and private rooms with multiple beds. I wish I had booked more time here to be honest, truly the highlight of my trip.

Very traditional hotel with a beautiful garden and great location. Stepping into this hotel felt like we were transported back in time and seeing the garden accessible from our room made it even more special. The food was also fantastic with very high quality omakase courses. The staff were super friendly and helpful which made the hotel very welcoming. We absolutely loved our stay.

Yamaguchi prefecture is laid-back maybe not much popular to tourists. Some places I can recommend are Kintaikyo bridge, Akiyoshido Cave, Akiyoshidai, Motonosumi Shrine, Tsunohima Bridge, and Karato Fish Market.

Nice city. The Iwakuni Castle was great. I was a little freaked out by the number of signs warning about pit vipers, but I think they were just trying to raise awareness. Down the ropeway (which was very cool) 0utside of the castle there were beautiful water spouts/fountains. Walking on the bridge was pretty cool but be aware that stairs change to planks then back to stairs - possible tripping hazard if you are not paying attention.

I absolutely loved Hagi, we stayed for 3 nights and plan to return and stay again sometime in the future. The city art museum is impressive, the old merchant houses are interesting, the beach is absolutely stunning and the pottery was too tempting as I bought 4 pieces. I'd recommend visiting the atmospheric temples - Tokoji and Daishoin. Definitely stop by Meirinkan - this combines an interesting museum with tourist information, cafe, restaurant and shop selling a good selection of items. Sadly we didn't have time to visit the temple ruins or Mount Kasayama.

We didn’t really stay long enough to explore the area but it felt very quiet and peaceful. We did enjoy a fun activity of ten pin bowling which we stumbled across on the short walk from the train to the accommodation. In Sundays trains run infrequently so I recommend planning for that.

Great getaway on a beautiful island with a bridge access. Though we traveled in winter we had crisp and sunny days with fantastic views and pristine beaches. A lot of the shops and restaurants are closed or with limited operating hours but thus did not stop us enjoying the visit and can definitely recommend spending a day or two there.

A hidden gem. Lots to see, great walks.

A hidden gem. Lots to see, great walks. A sleepy old Japanese town steeped in history with a modern touch. The trees lining the river are sakura (cherry blossom) trees which bloom spectacularly in early spring. Also a visit to Iwakuni Castle is a must via the walking trail or cable car ride. View is spectacular.

Hagi was home to several prominent and important figures in Japanese history. It was the hot bed of ideas starting with Yoshida Shoin whose free schools encouraged pride in being Japanese and also in having aspirations/dreams. The Hagi 5 brought back ideas from England that helped launch Japan's rapid industrialization. It was the crossroads for Satsuma's Saigo Takamori, Tosa's Ryoma Sakamoto and Hagi's Shoin Yoshida to formulate a united plan to bring down the Tokugawa Shogunate. This area should have been declared a World Heritage Side. Maybe it would be if more information was provided in English for non-Japanese visitors.

People in Ube were very kind and generous.

People in Ube were very kind and generous. Local foods are very good, in particular seafood. The train connection is not good; it takes almost one hour from the Shinkansen station. But the flight connection to Tokyo is very good.
