If you're looking for a budget place to stay in Lamu Town, look no further. Jannat House is a few minutes walk from the waterfront through the narrow alleyways, passing friendly locals. Packed with character and little touches, the multi-level old-house features a small pool surrounded by nice sitting area. Breakfast is included - fruit, eggs, Swahili coffee - and the place to eat is pleasant. The room is basic, with a chunky four poster bed and mosquito net provided. It not being busy when I visited the host gave me a free upgrade, asante!

Monika the owner is a delightful hostess. She was personally involved in all our arrangements. Her involvement in the community is also admirable. Our visit to the central part of the town plus a boat ride on a Dhow was all very pleasant and informative. Meals were served in our rooms. All the staff members are really friendly and helpful. Our rooms were wonderful with a sea view - but that does not apply to all the rooms. Nice spa as well. Monika arranged the boat ride to and from the airport.

Sammy, the bartender and all-around "curator" of the resort was wonderful, friendly and very capable. He could probably run the place himself. The bandas (luxury huts) were very comfortable and well-appointed, except for the pillows (see below). The food was excellent.
