Great location in the middle of the reserve. Flew into the Kalama airstrip. The lodge helped us arrange transportation from the airstrip to the lodge, a 45 minute drive. Apin was our driver and he was so friendly and knowledgeable,we hired him to guide us on all of our game drives. The lodge is wonderful, separate thatched roof bungalows with 2 rooms each. Large spacious rooms, traditional Samburu themed luxury . Beds are firmly comfortable, bathrooms large, great shower. Very quiet location. The buffet serves delicious food and offers many choices; Kenyan, Indian,English and lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. Enjoyed eating meals while watching animals visit the watering hole situated in front of the dining area. The swimming pool offered us a chance to cool off. The staff were amazing, everyone made us feel welcome and happy to be at Sopa. Samburu National Reserve is warmer and drier than many of Kenyan parks, however, I highly recommend visiting due to the more mountainous terrain and the amazingly unique wildlife. Staying at Sopa lodge really enhanced our stay.

Shaba — An Epic Nature Escape! Shaba was absolutely epic! The natural beauty was breathtaking — the sound of water trickling through the surroundings was so calming and truly refreshing. They’ve really done a great job greening the place, which adds to its serene vibe. The fish foot massage was an unforgettable experience — I thoroughly enjoyed it, even though Jo couldn’t quite stand it (she still earned a gold star for trying!). The food was divine, and Chef Joseph was always there, making sure we were well taken care of. And I can’t forget to mention Nimo — she was simply amazing and took such good care of Jo.Thank you for honoring Jo's Elephant theme😊 We’ll surely be back and I highly recommend Shaba to anyone visiting Isiolo!

Archers Post is convenient for three cool reserves but it's remote so bring your own snacks and an emergency medical kit. The sun is brutal and the air is dry. We all got sun sickness and dehydration even though we used sunscreen, drank a lot of water and stayed in the shade. Nearest petrol station is 35 km away. Plan carefully. Don't forget your ID.

Getting around Maralal was easy, one aspect about our visit which we liked. We mostly ate at Ngari Hill EcoLodge, but had ventured out to Safari Lodge Camp and, more excitingly, at Ribs Garden for roast meat. The people in Maralal seemed very friendly, hence, we felt free and secure to walk around the streets.
