We liked the Maya Museum the best. Chetumal is the capital of Quintana Roo state, but it is not a large city. It is a good overnight stop on the way between Cancun and Palenque.
Playa del Carmen is awesome! We picked this place to be our base out here in Quintana Roo since we were going to be traveling to Cancun and Tulum and since it's a mid way point we stayed here for 6 nights! Should of stayed a couple more days! During our stay in playa we would go down 5ta avenida where all the restaurants and bars are at (downtown) and had lunch and dinner there just a few steps from the beach. One of the places we went more than onces was Los Hijos De Las Tostadas, great seviche there for sure! We went out to mamitas beach club witch was decent but only place we found where they had music at the beach. We also took a ferry to Cozumel and went diving! Playa also has a night life we went to La Vaquita and abolengo, we chose these clubs over mandala and coco bingo because they were way cheaper and much better music. We then went to mandala to see what all the hype was about and left disappointed.
This city is a shame, a shame as the capital of Quintana Roo. The streets in very bad conditions, lights not working properly, lots of garbage all around, everything seems old and broken. A feel of insecurity all around. Definitely my last time in this city.
You need at least two days to enjoy Bacalar. It is simply a dream. If you are traveling around Quintana Roo, this place is a must. If you love nature , go.
Playa del carmen is ideal if you want the exact balance between nature, beuaty, and confort. Different and more personal than cancun, since you a in a small town, but nicer than tulum. Playa del carmen is close to everything touristic in quintana roo, it is a great point to stay to avoid the long drives either from cancun or tulum. If you buy in 5ta avenida, beware that everything is much more expensive than in the rest of the town, thou the places are really beautiful, in most of the cases worth of the extra paying. The beach is quite good, but not as good as the ones in tulum, at the begining of playa car (coming from cancun) are the best ones. There are lots of parks to visit, lot of nature, lot of fun, lot of everything, don't miss this place!
Two weeks in the Yucatan/Quintana Roo and Cozumel was definitely my favourite out of all the places we visited. The island itself is beautiful, very picturesque and it is also easy to get to from the mainland. We spent two days snorkeling/on the beach and the water was the cleanest we'd seen so far. The best part of my whole holiday was snorkeling on Cozumel as even in the shallowest water there are lots of fish and we got loads of great pictures and videos. In the evening it is also a fun place to eat out in and go for a walk as the atmosphere is really relaxed and there are some bars and authentic restaurants. We only stayed two nights and spent both of them at Los Otates. I really recommend it, both for the food and for the extremely friendly staff, especially the bartender Omar who makes amazing margaritas, including his own recipe with a hint of chilli. The only criticism I have of Cozumel is that during the day you can't walk for people trying to sell you something or drag you in their shops. It's completely different to the evening when everything is a lot more chilled.
Cancun is basically the Las Vegas of Quintana Roo. You don't get much of a taste for Mexico, though there are things to do and the many all-inclusive hotels make planning a vacation super simple. If what you mostly want is to go between pool and beach, then Cancun is fine.
This is the hidden gem on the Yucatan/Quintana Roo coastline. If you want droves of crowds and alcohol-fueled action, go to Cancun. If you want to simply relax and enjoy the beauty and tranquility of Mexican island life, come to Isla Mujeres...you can always thank me later. Without a doubt, make reservations at Olivia's...and, although you may not need reservations, be sure to check out Polo's Mango Café and Rooster's (for breakfast).
It is a capital of Quintana Roo - the #1 tourist state in Mexico. Though most people are crowded around Cancun and Rivera Maya, Chetumal has its fare share of interesting things to explore, a lot can be learned about Mexican history and history of Maya visiting Chetumal museums, there are beautiful Mayan sites easily accessible by car and gorgeous lake of Bacalar is near by. There are beaches, boating, Xcalac and Mahahual are not too far, great food, nice people (not much English speaking though). Chetumal is right on the border with Belize which is as well hugely popular for tourism! I live in Belize and highly recommend visiting both - Southern Q. Roo and Belize!
I cannot say enough about our travels in Quintana Roo, the Mayan people are some of the hardest working people I have encountered in travels they really want you to enjoy your stay. The areas archeological sites, variety of birds and beaches provides something for everyone.
Family friendly atmosphere. Quiet location. Accessibility to beach and pool. Very clean. Loved the gardens. Ability to visit other Royal hotel restaurants for free. Easy reservations in restaurants. Close to stores and attractions. Availability of recreational activities. Kitchen complete though we did not really cook. Laundry facility available for minimal charge. Along Quintana Roo easy access to public transport, church (coz we don't forget to thank God during our vacation), tour shuttles no problem picking up for free.
Everything - the brand new hostel felt like a boutique hostel, absolutely immaculate, stylish, well designed facilities, incredibly comfortable and private pod-style bunk beds. Loads of space in the dorm for cases and moving around, amazing bathroom - just everything amazing and I NEVER take the time to write reviews but for this place I had to. The staff were also incredible so friendly, flexible just so pleasant which isn't as common as it should be from hostel staff in Quintana Roo these days unfortunately.
I‘ve tried over 12 5 star hotels all over Quintana Roo in my 4 month stay in Mexico. This place was my favourite! Everything was just perfect! Fresh juices in the morning, excellent ambience and overall the b-loved food was amazing. Beautiful beach, very nice facility and overall gourmet food with a jungle experience while everything is clean and modern. 10/10
Easily the best place we stayed in Quintana Roo. The hotel is well run, spotlessly clean and with lots of attention to detail in the decor. The owner, Fabio, was friendly and professional. Delicious breakfast on the rooftop terrace.
Clean rooms, friendly staff, all information available.
The staff, the hotel and the view
location, beachfront and facility.
that I spent the best night of my life in here
Staff very nice, excellent food, nice place
Wonderfulll free Breakfeast wonderfull view erverything was nice. Zero mosquitos and flyes
The hotel is very well-kept, with nice swimming pools, clean sandy beach, regularly cleaned of sea grass. There was a lifeguard on the beach all the time, and security in the hotel area. Very good food. The hotel offers 3 different restaurants. We recommend the Mexican restaurant (reservation is required one day earlier). Food in restaurants is free for all-inclusive guests. It was a positive surprise that drinks were made of real juice and mint, compared to other hotels where drinks are served with artificial syrups. Meat, fish, sea-fruits ware always fresh and tasty (not frozen). Meals in restaurants were served at wide time intervals, so that each hotel guest could adjust the time of the meal to their needs. For example, breakfast could be eaten very early, i.e. 6:30 (for people going on a trip that day). Dinner was served until 23:00. People who returned to the hotel late, had a chance to eat their meal. Lunch was served from 13-17. In the evenings, there were various attractions such as karaoke or artistic performances. Hotel staff very nice and helpful. Especially waiters in restaurants. Half of the staff speaks English, while those who did not, were very helpful and trying to make a communication in different way. Rooms clean, nice with comfortable beds. Well equipped (e.g. iron + ironing board). The hotel has a small grocery store with prices like other shops in the city. You can easily buy water and sandwiches there for a trip. There was also an ATM in the shop. The location of the hotel is very good due to its location in the hotel zone. Convenient bus connection to the city center (max. 3 minutes of waiting for the bus - cost 12 pesos). There is an exchange office, next to the hotel, also two grocery stores, a museum and Mayan village ruins.
Papaya was located in a great area walking distance to a busy part of Tulum. Since the beginning, the hotel staff were very kind and happy to have us. We met with Javi (staff) and he was able to give us a great tour of the hotel and also of their great restaurants and beach clubs. Additionally, explained all the upcoming events for their guests which is a huge plus. We were able to be in close contact with staff at all times and had a great 2 day stay.
I loved everything in this hotel. Staff is very nice, rooms are comfortable and clean, the location is great for a nice stroll and you have everything inside this hotel. The food is good too. Thank you
Amazing food and plenty of options. Really enjoyed our stay here.
It was real pleasure to stay in this hotel. It’s located in quite corner of Tulum. Has a small private beach and nice bar/restaurant. There are always taxis available - so in a few minutes trip you will reach all the noisy clubs if needed. Administrator Natasha was just amazing and help us all the time during our stay. Thank you so much!
Dinner at Teatro del Rio, Room amenities, kayak exploring through "The Islands", Xelfie options, caleta beach, non-motorized activities, chapel view, spa treatment at Muluk spa, unique restaurant decor. Overall staff friendliness.
There was nothing not to like.
