On my bike pack trip, I booked very last minute at de Pletsmolen. The host called me to check arrival time to make sure they were able to welcome me. At arrival the super friendly host was there to share all details of the accommodation. As well where I could clean my bike, secured storage for the bike, where I could buy food etc etc. Next day a very nice breakfast to fuel for another day on the bike through beautiful South Limburg.
In other words a great host and accommodation.

The hotel is inside the slope or the slope is inside the hotel, whatever is the answer it is amazing to ski, eat, drink and go to the hotel to rest. Perfect fun with family and friends.

Heerlen has a rather bad name amongst Amsterdamers, almost...
Heerlen has a rather bad name amongst Amsterdamers, almost all of whom have never been there. They also say Maastricht is lovely, but they haven't been there either. In fact, Maastricht is indeed lovely. But Heerlen (which has both an ancient and more recent mining heritage) is far lovelier than it used to be, though it's much better in summer than winter. I wouldn't book a 2 week holiday there, but a day or two is well spent. As with this part of Europe generally, there are deep links to both Roman and Hapsburg empires that are worth investigating.

Kerkrade is a very nice town in the south of the Netherlands...
Kerkrade is a very nice town in the south of the Netherlands. We visited nearby places like Heerlen and Vaals and we visited the Botanic Garden in Kerkrade. Of course we needed to buy the local cake: Vlaai. Especially the Cherry Vlaai was superb!

Very difficult to find how to access the entrance to the hotel …. Needs to be better signposted even trying to gain entry to the hotel was difficult. Saw a barrier that was closed and didn’t know how we were supposed to get past it …reversed back and drove around probably the wrong way to get into the car parking area . Disabled parking was not clearly marked….it must have taken a total of 30 minutes to sort out where and what we needed to do to enter the hotel . What a shame for our first impressions, but the disappointment just grew due to other aspects of our stay .cold , poor menu’s lacking in comfort all round .

it has changed over the years , but well worth a visit, there is an area where there is a old house and equipment/furnishings ect just a short walk in the wooded area. and Sittard, Heerleen and Maassricte is just a short drive, but the busses run a great service as well
You pop in and out of Germany all the time, Go see for yourselves you wont be dissapointed

A tidy and relaxed town.
A tidy and relaxed town. We liked the mining museum, which was unpretentious but well-presented and very-well explained in English/German/Dutch by a local guy with connections to the industry. The other big draw is the Roman baths (extensive unearthed foundations of the whole complex, nicely presented inside a large modern warehouse structure). Rail station is not far from Tulip hotel and is well-served to Aachen and Maastricht.

Good location with good access to the countryside nearby. Several good restaurants in Kerkrade including Restaurant Felice. Two supermarkets are just 8 minutes drive away, very useful when self-catering.

Heerlen is small, welcoming and clean -- lots of nice restaurants and a fabulous Greek restaurant "El Greco" on Pancratiusplein 39. We would go to the El Greco again and again! Indoor skiing at Landgraaf not far away.
